📢 CANOPS Family Update: No In-Person School September 17–18

Please note that there will be no in-person school on Thursday, September 17, or Friday, September 18.

💻 Thursday, September 17
Students will participate in synchronous eLearning, and Parent-Teacher Conferences will also take place.

📚 Friday, September 18
Students will participate in asynchronous eLearning from home. There will be no live class sessions.

Please check communications, emails, or newsletters from your child’s teacher or principal for school-specific conference information, eLearning schedules, assignments, and additional details.

By high school, students should not be choosing pathways from scratch. They should be building on what they have already discovered.

Over time, students begin to recognize:
- What interests them.
- What they are good at.
- What kinds of problems they enjoy solving.
- What careers and industries they want to understand better.
- And where they might want to go next.

That is why career awareness cannot begin with pathway selection.

When students have opportunities to explore, create, interact with professionals, and experience different kinds of work before high school, choosing a pathway becomes less about answering “What do I want to be?” And more about answering “What do I want to explore next?”

We are not asking students to have their futures figured out. We are giving them enough experiences to make their next choice with greater purpose.

Career awareness starts early and grows over time.

Kaira and Rod are both Career Academy Network of Public Schools graduates, and Kaira is already helping run a business at just 21 years old!

Stories like this are a great example of what career-connected learning is all about—giving students real-world skills, experiences, and opportunities that prepare them for success beyond graduation.

Students experience the model because adults design it together.

Behind every meaningful student experience are adults asking important questions:
-What should students know and be able to do?
-How can classroom learning connect to authentic challenges?
-Where can industry expertise strengthen instruction?
-What experiences will help students discover what they are capable of?

At CANOPS, career-connected learning is not the responsibility of one teacher, one program, or one partner. It happens when educators, industry partners, and community members bring their expertise together around students. That collaboration creates something none of us could build alone: a connected learning experience that grows with students over time.

Students may not see all of the planning, conversations, and coordination behind the scenes, but they experience the result.

A Makerspace is not just a room with equipment. It is instructional infrastructure.

It is a place where an idea on paper can become something students can build, test, question, and improve.

Where math has a purpose. Where science becomes something students can see and test. Where creativity meets problem-solving. And where getting it wrong the first time can be an important part of getting it right.

The value of a Makerspace is not measured by the number of tools in the room. It is measured by what students can do because the space exists.

When these environments are intentionally connected to instruction, they create opportunities for students to discover interests, develop skills, and begin seeing new possibilities for themselves.
