🏓 HISTORY MADE IN SOUTH BEND! 🏓

Today marked a historic milestone for SBCSC Youth Sports as we officially launched our Varsity Elementary Pickleball League!

With more than 12 teams and 80 student-athletes from across the district, we’re creating another opportunity for our youngest athletes to compete, build confidence, learn teamwork, and develop a strong foundation through sports.

After months of planning and tremendous support from our sponsors, coaches, staff, families, and community partners, we are proud to officially launch what we understand is first districtwide varsity elementary pickleball league in the nation! Everyone who joined us today got to be part of a special moment—and this is only the beginning. 🏓

And pickleball was just the start of an action-packed day at CHS!

⚽ We were also proud to host a cohort of coaches working toward their D License with Indiana Soccer, continuing our commitment to developing and investing in coaches throughout our community.

🏈 We capped off the day with Week 1 of Boys Flag Football, featuring competitive games, great energy, and plenty of school pride.

Today represented exactly what we’re working to build through Youth Sports: more opportunities for students, stronger programs, better-prepared coaches, and experiences that our young athletes will remember.

Out of many schools, we represent ONE CITY full of opportunities for all.

A huge THANK YOU to our incredible grounds crew and custodians! 👏🏽🏈

Our game days wouldn’t be what they are without the hard work that happens behind the scenes. As pictured, our crew has been busy lining the fields and adding a sand/soil mix to help build up and improve the playing surface.

We want our elementary student-athletes to not only look and feel good in their uniforms, but also have the opportunity to compete on quality, well-maintained fields they can be proud of.

This is another step toward improving the overall athletic experience for our students. We look forward to continuing to partner with our fields crew on more projects like this throughout the district!

🏆 SPORTS HIGHLIGHT! 🥊🤼

We have two exciting sports opportunities coming up for our students!

🤼 Boys & Girls Wrestling(2nd-5th) begins this week at our pathway locations! Come learn the fundamentals, build confidence, and compete alongside students from across South Bend. Practices will be held between 5-7pm at your pathways HS.

🥊 Boys & Girls Boxing (4th-5th) will begin following the conclusion of the wrestling season, giving students another opportunity to stay active, develop new skills, and try something new! Practices will be held between 5-6:30 at Clay HS.

🏆 4th–5th Grade Sports = BIG IMPACT! 🏆

The investment we’re making in elementary athletics is already showing up at the next level! 💪🏽

As more students participate in sports during 4th and 5th grade, we’re beginning to see the impact as they transition into our middle school programs.

📈 20% increase in students participating in middle school athletics
🏈 70 additional helmets/pads distributed across the district to support growing participation
🎓 Classes of 2032 & 2033 are coming through the pathway, and we expect these groups to become some of our strongest as they continue developing over the next 2–3 years.

This is why creating opportunities early matters. It’s bigger than one season or one sport—we’re building a pathway that gives students opportunities to learn, compete, belong, and grow as they move from elementary to middle school and beyond.

Start early. Build the foundation. Strengthen the future.
