Nestled in 108 acres of sunny, serene redwood forest adjacent to Nisene Marks State Park, Tara Redwood School provides an unparalleled learning environment of peace and beauty. Our values-based program is geared toward empowering children to make a positive difference in the world. Established in 1989, the school's purpose has been to educate the whole child. Not only do we strive to help children come to know the joy of learning, we also provide a foundation for the emotional and inner development of each child through our Creating Compassionate Cultures (CCC) curriculum. CCC seeks to develop the whole person; as a result, it has the following goals:

• To foster the qualities of loving kindness, compassion, and universal responsibility.

• To cultivate respectful behavior toward all living beings.

• To present a balanced integrated program of learning activities and experiences that addresses the physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual domains of the person.

• To transmit the universal elements of wisdom from different cultures and traditions through an understanding of both the material (external) and spiritual (internal) aspects of reality.

• To develop ethical behavior based on an understanding of the interrelatedness of all phenomena.

• To develop an understanding of:

The nature and functioning of the mind and its projections. The nature and source of emotions and how to work with them.

What a way to close out a year! Last June, all classes took the stage at the Wishing Temple for our end-of-year play. Each performance grew out of the cultural themes the children studied all year, and brought to life the kindness, courage, and compassion they practice every day. Weeks of memorizing lines, learning songs, and rehearsing came together in one unforgettable afternoon, followed by a community potluck under the redwoods. Thank you to our students, teachers, and families for making it so special. We look forward to what this year’s students create come summertime!

Early mornings at the Village Campus in the Rainbow Class🌈 One of Teacher Adela’s first questions to her students in the morning is “How are you feeling?” It’s a wonderful way for the teacher to attune to each student and their needs first thing☺️

Into the heart of nature! Allowing children ample space to move and express themselves is a fundamental part of Tara’s curriculum. Freedom of movement allows children to explore the world with purpose, helping the mind and body develop together 🧠🤸🏽
