Meet Birdie!!! 🐶

Birdie was given to our family a few years ago by another family that could no longer care for her.

Birdie is a favorite among my students. She has been in LOTS of clay model pictures, gets loved on constantly, and has been invited to more birthday parties than me. 🥴😂

I love working with students in a casual environment where we can take breaks outside and pet a dog when needed. ❤️

Love how Davis is such a different approach than phonics and flash cards!

Wait, you use CLAY to teach reading?
Yes. And here's why it works when flashcards don't.
For visual-spatial thinkers, abstract words (like "the") have no picture. No picture = confusion = disorientation.
But when you physically mold clay into a symbol that represents "the," something changes:

Your hands create the meaning (kinesthetic learning)
Your eyes see it (visual learning)
Your brain connects the abstract word to a concrete form

You've just created a mental picture that didn't exist before.
Now "the" isn't confusing. It's the clay arrow you made. It points to something specific.
This is called Symbol Mastery. It's a core Davis technique.
Over 3-5 days, students create 200+ of these symbols. They master the words that were blocking their reading.
And reading suddenly makes sense.
This isn't magic. It's brain science applied to learning.

Lena came to see me last year for a reading program. She came back this past week to complete a math program.

Teaching math in a different way that is outside of the box is so fun! Watching math “make sense” for a student is so rewarding.

I loved getting to spend time with Lena again, but she may have been happier to see my dog Birdie than me. 😂🐶

When you get updates 15 years down the road. ❤️
Sometimes one of the biggest parts of my jobs is encouraging a parent when their child is not progressing on the same timeline as others.

I love all of my students so much. I also love a good comeback story, and I am thankful to be a part of so many over the years!!
