Greetings, Automotive Professionals. An automotive glass business opportunity is available in our area. Here's the owner's message below.

Hello,

I have decided it is time for me to move on to a new venture. From my early days of glass replacement in San Jose during the 1990s to my current work in Sonora, I want to sincerely thank my customers for your business and for choosing me for your automotive glass needs.

I am now looking for someone interested in purchasing the business to keep it running in Sonora, CA. I am offering two options:

1. Outright Purchase: A complete sale of the business.
2. Mentorship and Training: This option is available to a high school graduate, college student, or anyone interested in learning the auto glass installation trade. It includes training and a financing plan to cover the business's purchase price.

If you know anyone who might be interested in either of these opportunities, please ask them to contact me directly. I will continue to do installations/repairs for the next few months and then will close the business on August 31, 2026. I have attached an information flyer that can be shared.

Why have thefts of Catalytic Converters become so rampant in the past eight years?

Answer: It’s the precious metals.

Converters contain rhodium, palladium and platinum. These precious metals are such a small part of converters - roughly comparable to the weight of a nickel. But those precious metals are even more precious today, than they were in the past.

In the past, the value of these precious metals didn’t cause big payments when recycling converters.

And in the past 7-8 years, rhodium has seen peaks as high as $25,000/ounce for rhodium, palladium at $1,500/ounce, and platinum around $1,500/ounce.

The result is that a used converter can bring $100s each at the recycler.

Which vehicles are most at risk for converter thefts?

Pickups and SUVs, particularly those with bolt-on converters. And, hybrid vehicles, because those converters contain more precious metals and bring more $ from the recycler.
