PECAN WEEVIL GRUB EXIT HOLES
Pecan weevil activity starts in early August. Adults emerge from the soil. To deposit eggs in pecans, a female feeds through the shuck and shell to the kernel. She then excavates a small cavity into the developing kernel. She turns around and uses her ovipositor to place three to four eggs (per nut) on the developing kernel.

Larvae hatch and feed in the kernel. When fully developed, larvae chew a single hole (occasionally two) through the shuck and shell, exit the nut, and drop to the ground. The time from egg lay to larval emergence is approximately 42 days.

Effective May 11, 2025, the USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) in conjunction with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will restrict the importation of live animal commodities originating from, or transiting Mexico.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Rollins announced the suspension of live cattle, horse, and bison imports through U.S. ports of entry along the southern border due to the continued and rapid northward spread of New World Screwworm (NWS) in Mexico, effective immediately. This import suspension will persist on a month-by-month basis, until a significant window of NWS containment is achieved.

IT'S BEAN TIME.

Mesquite reproduce only by seed and not vegetatively.

Each mesquite seed pod can contain more than 10 seeds.

Germination is improved when seed are scarified by passage through animal digestive tracts.

Mesquite seeds within pods can remain viable for up to 10 years IN THE SOIL. However, longevity of seed viability is probably shorter in higher rainfall areas. ~ (Tshirley, F.H. and S.C. Martin. 1960. Germination and longevity of velvet mesquite seed in soil. J. Range Manage. 13: 94-97.)

SHEEP & GOAT PREDATOR MANAGEMENT BOARD ELECTION
