Good Afternoon,

The CTE program was represented at last night's Bruins game through our continued collaboration with the Bosch Tools & The Bruins Foundation.
The Somerville High School Carpentry students have once again partnered with Bosch Power Tools, the Boston Bruins Foundation, and new partner, Jackson Lumber, to build two custom sheds, a 6' x 7' and a 4' x 4' which will be raffled off separately. Bosch Tools generously donated over $10,000 in tools, the Boston Bruins Foundation provided game-used Bruins hockey sticks, and Jackson Lumber contributed $3,200 in materials. Transportation is provided by Bostowin Towing for up to 15 miles from Somerville High School (additional mileage at extra cost). Both sheds are primed, wired for electricity, and designed so the sticks can be easily removed for painting or customization. The larger shed features game-used sticks from Sean Kuraly, Brandon Carlo, Justin Brazeau, Mark Kastelic, Chris Kelly, Alex Steeves, and Daniel Viel, along with a puck signed by Charlie McAvoy, while the smaller shed includes sticks from Andrew Peeke, Mark Kastelic, and Viktor Arvidsson, plus a puck signed by Fraser Minten. Proceeds from the raffle will directly support the students of the Somerville High School Center for Career and Technical Education. Please consider placing a bid to support their work.

Somerville High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department hosted the 2nd Annual Credit for Life Fair in March. CTE students came to the event knowing their salary after choosing a career in class ahead of the event. They checked in to the event, then stopped by stations to budget 12 separate domestic line items, including housing, transportation, food, and even retirement and charitable giving. After visiting each station and allotting money to each expense, students had individual credit counseling sessions. This event was organized by business teacher Michele Harney in collaboration with Northern Bank in Woburn who graciously sent 35 enthusiastic and friendly volunteers to the event to share their time and financial expertise with students.
