Friends,
It is with a heavy heart and a sense of an incomplete commitment, that due to unanticipated changing personal and professional responsibilities, unrelated to school board working dynamics, I submitted my notice of discontinuance from the Ward 4 school board position, effective July 31, 2024.

I am proud to have served in multiple elected service positions, starting in my early twenties, during each of the last four decades, and with different generations of Somersworth residents. Although many names are now lost to a continuously evolving community, they served with selflessness and honor, as do current public servants within Somersworth. While I expect a similar memory fate, I hope my contributions were of value and that I remained true to myself, including during complicated and challenging public service times.

Throughout my elected service journey, I reminded myself and occasionally others, that I worked collaboratively with, but not for councils and boards. Also, I worked collaboratively with, but not for mayors and chairs. I worked primarily for the people of Ward 4, broadly the greater Somersworth community, and in a way that maintained my own values. I hope my practice of those values, including striving to respect more than disrespect, compliment more than criticize, and overall civility more than discourtesy, has been more of a strength and virtue than a weakness and a vice.

I am honored to have had the opportunity to be at the table of discourse to solution find better alternative futures for our younger generations. It is the students within our school community that will, in the near future, become decision makers and lead us forward. I hope that I demonstrated to my own children that public service is not just for other people, and that it can be sought by all that seek to serve, including a spectrum of ages, genders, thoughts, and overall life experiences.

Somersworth can be proud of our past, should appreciate our present, and know that with intentional continuous improvement efforts, our brightest days are yet to come. I hope that my life journey allows me to return to those efforts once again, as public service is in my blood and Somersworth is in my heart.

Sincerely,

Todd M. Marsh

Martin Luther King Jr. was about equality, however, he was also about LOVE in the face of hate, CIVILITY in the face of violence, COMPROMISE without compromising conscience, and always striding FORWARD.

We honor Martin Luther King Jr. by remembering our struggled past and thinking and leading forward with casual strides and intentional steps.

Our moment at the wheel of decision making is fleeting. Let us navigate with intentional civil discourse, common ground solution finding, and toward a north star of better. It is with these beliefs that I ask for your evaluation, confidence, and support on Tuesday, November 7th. Together, for future generations of course setters, we can continue to work toward our north star.

RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION
Friends,
I believe there is still a place in our world, country, and community for passionate civil discourse, common ground solution finding, and striving to master our moment in time. I believe in recognizing and appreciating what is great about our community, including our school system, while always working toward better for the benefit of our children and our future society. It is with these foundational beliefs that I once again seek to represent my community neighbors on the school board.

Since my return to elected public service, as a community, we have navigated many challenges, including a worldwide pandemic. Also, we have created opportunities by thinking collaboratively and differently toward our purpose of better.

Throughout my public service life journey, I have strived to practice thoughtfulness, independence of thought, and collaborative solution finding. I continue to be mindful not to lose who I am in response to who others are. I believe that is what the people of Ward 4 expect from me and deserve.

Let us look with vision from the Hilltop City toward better. Let us someday be the proud past that fostered a bright future for future generations. There are no greater gifts generations can provide to the next than knowledge, ability to reason, and compassion.

In not much more than a decade after the conclusion of our public service, the names behind our efforts, including my own, will be all but lost to the passage time. Let us master our moment, while being mindful the effectiveness of our efforts outweighs the insignificance of our pettiness.

It is with these beliefs that I ask for your evaluation, confidence, and support. Together, for the benefit of our children and future generations, we can continue to work toward our north star of better.

I wish our children all the best for this coming school year and for them to meet their individual goals that are unique to them for the benefit of all. The young Todd Marsh below looked eager to start 1st grade and my older brother somewhat annoyed…. 😁

Thank you Somersworth teachers, administrators, and support teams for a school year of continued commitment. There is no other profession that shares the type of short and long-term influence on human beings as does education. Happy Summer! πŸ˜€πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜€

Residents of Ward 4,
As the School Board navigates the current Somersworth school district situation, I believe it is prudent and it is right to communicate with you. Thank you for understanding that due to the circumstances, I need to be judicious with my words. However, to the residents I represent, please know I am approaching this situation with professionalism, thoughtfulness, independence of thought, and collaborative solution finding. I believe those are the virtues you expect from me and I strive to practice.
It continues to be an honor to represent you.
-Todd
