We enjoyed hosting a Kentucky Humanities Chautauqua event today. Dr. Cynthia Resor’s portrayal of Lettice Bryan was both engaging and informative. We appreciate everyone who came out to attend!
We're a community of readers, with a common purpose: we want to discuss, communicate and read one common book, each semester.
Common Read Mission Statement:
It is the mission of Somerset Community College to enable our students to succeed by completing college, creating careers and living richly. As we celebrate SCC's 50th Anniversary in 2015 by collectively reading one book, our Common Read endeavors to bring students, faculty, staff and community together to share in discussions and activities that enhance our successes as lifelong learners.

We’re excited to share that our Common Read for the upcoming academic year will be Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts by Crystal Wilkinson!
Wilkinson, a former Kentucky poet laureate, invites readers to reflect on the stories and traditions that shape us—and the “kitchen ghosts” we carry with us. Throughout the year, we’ll gather for conversations, events, and activities inspired by the book. Whether you’re reading for the first time or coming back for a second helping, we can’t wait to share this journey with you.
More details to come on events, discussions, and ways to get involved. 💬📖

We had a wonderful turnout yesterday for our panel event! The discussion was both meaningful and impactful. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible panel members—Wanda Fries, Elisabeth Holt, Rachel Dunn, and Amy Marcum—for sharing their insights and expertise from their respective fields. We truly appreciate everyone who attended and engaged in the conversation.
