School is back in session for Southwestern High School! From in-depth discussions, to notes, to hands-on experiments, creative projects, and experiences, teachers and students wasted no time getting back to learning after the summer break. Here's to a fantastic school year.

This message goes out to all Southwestern High School parents reminding you that if you have not completed your student’s Online Registration and Meal Benefits form for the 2026-2027 School year, this needs to be completed as soon as possible. This is a requirement every school year. This is how you update your information such as phone numbers, address, pick-up list, and general information. It is very important that we have the most current information in Infinite Campus for your child’s safety.
The registration is tied to your Parent Portal as well. When you go to your Parent Portal and log in, the Meal Benefit form is under the “More” section. You will do the registration for “Existing” student; all your information will be there, but if you need to make changes, you can. You will not be able to access anything further in the portal until this has been completed. Once you have completed the registration and it has been processed, it will open up your Parent Portal account. If you need assistance with your login, please contact the Guidance Office for assistance.

Silas LaPrade, a junior at Southwestern High School, has been accepted to the prestigious and rigorous Craft Academy at Morehead State University. While simultaneously being enrolled at SWHS, Silas will attend college and live on campus. He will earn up to two years of college credit with a focus on STEM. We are excited for him and this opportunity!

On Wednesday, August 5th, Pulaski County Schools will be conducting Back to School Emergency Response Training at Southwestern High School and Pulaski County High School. There will be a large First Responder presence on each campus. Please be advised that these are only drills.

This week, teachers Kylie Mounce and Alec Wooldridge hosted a Congressional Academy made possible through KEDC grants. Throughout the week, students went on field trips across Kentucky to learn about the rich history in their own backyard. Students also worked on creating their own photo essays throughout the week to showcase everything they learned from these educational opportunities.

Day 1: Perryville Battlefield
Day 2: Kentucky Capitol
Day 3: Shaker Village
Day 4: General George Patton Museum
Day 5: Mill Springs Battlefield and a tour of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and Pulaski County Clerk’s Office/Courthouse, led by Detective Branson Patterson. A special thank you to those who went above and beyond with their demonstrations: Detective Branson Patterson, Detective Jay Picard, Lieutenant Detective Matthew Bryant, K9 Deputy Dylan West, K9 Rocky, and Judge BJ Hardy.

Our students had the best time and are already hoping to do this again next year! Thank you to KEDC Grants for making this incredible educational experience possible!
