Congratulations to Sophia Ross, SCTC's October-PM Builder of the Month! Sophia is a Senior at Berlin-Brothersvalley High School and is in the SCTC Health Occupations program. She was nominated by her instructor, Mrs. Lindsey Deaner.

“Sophia consistently demonstrates kindness, respect, and a genuine willingness to help others,” said Mrs. Deaner. “She regularly asks if there is anything she can do to help me as her instructor and is always willing to lend a hand to those around her. She comes to class each day with a smile and a positive attitude, helping to create a welcoming and supportive learning environment. Sophia’s dependability, thoughtfulness, and willingness to go above and beyond make her very deserving of this nomination.”

Sophia serves as the Vice President of SADD at SCTC and as the Vice President of the Health Occupations class. She also volunteers her time during clinical rotations at a local assisted living center, where she interacts with residents and gains valuable hands-on experience in a healthcare setting. Her leadership, willingness to volunteer, and dedication to helping others reflect her commitment to both SCTC and the healthcare field.

Congratulations to Preston Maust, SCTC's October-AM Builder of the Month! Preston attends Salisbury-Elk Lick High School and is in the SCTC Computer Networking program. He was nominated by his instructor Ms. Nancy Scarton.

“Preston has been one of the best students I’ve ever had in class,” said Ms. Scarton. “He is always consistently working on something: a SkillsUSA project, helping out with a class exercise, assisting fellow students, or contemplating his next 3D printer design.”

Preston is a natural leader and has been the Computer Networking class lead for three years and class President for two years. He is very active in SkillsUSA where he has been an officer for three years, President for two years, a state-level competitor for three years, a national-level competitor for one year, and serves as a Western Regional Leadership Conference Officer.

⭐Workforce Stakeholders Meeting Recap

One week ago today, more than 50 workforce, education, business, and community leaders gathered at the Somerset County Technology Center for our Workforce Stakeholders Meeting. The event brought together key partners from across Somerset County to discuss workforce challenges, opportunities, and collaborative solutions that will help strengthen our future.

Held in tandem with the Success in Somerset County initiative, the meeting provided an opportunity to connect stakeholders and continue important conversations around workforce development, career pathways, and educational partnerships throughout our region.

A special thank you to Sharon Clapper, Educational Consultant for the Success in Somerset County program, for her leadership and ongoing commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for students, educators, employers, and our communities.

We also extend our appreciation to Aaron Thomas and our partners at PA CareerLink Somerset for sharing insights on workforce initiatives and resources available to support employers and job seekers across our county.

Thank you as well to Mark Bower, Superintendent of Rockwood Area School District, for representing the Somerset County superintendents and providing valuable perspectives from the education community.

We are grateful to the Somerset County Technology Center for hosting the meeting and to all of the leaders and stakeholders who attended. As the Chamber, we are proud to help facilitate conversations and partnerships that bring people together, strengthen our workforce, and create opportunities that move Somerset County forward.
