"One night I dreamed I painted a large American flag, and the next morning I got up and I went out and bought the materials to begin it. And I did. I worked on that painting a long time. It's a very rotten painting—physically rotten—because I began it in house enamel paint, which you paint furniture with, and it wouldn't dry quickly enough. Then I had in my head this idea of something I had read or heard about: wax encaustic. " --Jasper Johns

Lucio Fontana was an Argentine-Italian painter, sculptor and theorist. He is mostly known as the founder of Spatialism.
The artist was obsessed by the concept of space and space travel. He founded the Spatialism art movement in 1947, not long after the first ever photos of Earth taken from a rocket appeared in magazines around the world. He began puncturing canvases and works on paper with his Buchi. As he said: “It’s not true that I made holes in the canvas in order to destroy it, no, I made holes in order to discover, to find the cosmos of an unknown dimension,”
What would you think Fontana work would be more like now with the tangible idea of space travel & advanced science? Share your thought in the comment.

Daydream Nation (2017). ©️ Glenn Brown.
Glenn Brown's works reveal that some of the most highlighted art of all times has to be truly original, & attention to details and technique can only make it superb. During his career he looked to ways in which he might reimagine the history of art and culture by references historical works next to more popular, more contemporary, sources - and he turned to the "regressive" art of painting to make his own mark. By altering the perception of these his paintings also express the vernacular of hyperrealism.
Brown took up the challenge of "being original" by devoting his energies to painting; and utilizing a medium that seemed on the brink of death in the 1990s: "That always felt very much an issue when I was at college. What you paint, how you paint, painting is dead, this is the last dying throes of painting"
We hope you have a weekend with time to daydream, enjoy & further discover the career of Glenn Brown’s work. Learn more
