Today, Somerset welcomed back one of its own! Derek McDonald, class of 2001, spoke (and played) to our JH and SH students about what it’s like to be a professional musician and luthier (someone who restores and repairs string instruments). Derek is the principal trumpet of the Cheyenne Symphony, Colorado Ballet Orchestra, and Boulder Chamber Orchestra. He is also the owner of McDonald Violins, and he got his musical start right here in Somerset. We’re Golden Eagle proud of you, Derek!

Six 6th grade students will be singing with the Somerset County Youth Chorus at The Flight 93 National Memorial for the 25th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony at 1:00 PM. We would love for you to come or watch on the livestream (link included in original post).

Where will you be on the 25th Observance of the September 11 attacks?

If you cannot join us in person, you can still honor the 40 passengers and crew members of Flight 93 virtually.

️Morning Observance: 8:30 a.m. EST
Afternoon Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. EST

Both ceremonies will be livestreamed, giving us all an opportunity to pause, remember, and honor the courage and sacrifice of those aboard Flight 93.

After the Air Force Strings gave a terrific performance at the Somerset 25/250 Celebration, they took the time to work with our orchestra students! They spoke about life as military musicians and even invited our Golden Eagle musicians to play along with them. A great time was had by all!
