After the Air Force Strings gave a terrific performance at the Somerset 25/250 Celebration, they took the time to work with our orchestra students! They spoke about life as military musicians and even invited our Golden Eagle musicians to play along with them. A great time was had by all!

Shout out to Somerset alumna, Abby Gross, who recently got to play saxophone with Noah Kahan at his Pittsburgh concert on “The Great Divide” Tour. Abby’s band, The Commonheart, will be playing at Laurel Arts on August 6th as part of the Somerset 25/250 celebration. Check out the “The Somerset County 25/250 Celebration” FB page for more info. The high school orchestra is currently on its way home from a quick trip to NYC! We worked with a conductor from the New York Conservatory of Music, saw a Broadway show (“The Great Gatsby”), and toured a large part of the city. A fun time was had by all!

Congratulations to the seven new Tri-M Music Honors Society members who were inducted tonight! They join thirteen previous Tri-M members. Together, they will inspire, lead, and serve within Somerset’s Music Department!

The Somerset Indoor Color Guard had a phenomenal finish to their season this past Saturday at Region 11 Chapter Championships held at IUP. They earned 2nd place with a score of 80.9! It was the perfect way to end a great season! 🧡🖤

What a week! Members of the SASD Music Department attended the annual Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) State Conference. Our very own Krista Mathias was presented with the PMEA Outstanding Superintendent Award, and junior violist Lilly Gastley earned her way to perform in the 2026 PMEA All-State Orchestra.

But wait, there’s more! While at the conference, we were notified that the SASD Music Department was once again selected as a NAMM Foundation Best Communities in Music Education recipient!

Music education is alive and well in SASD! 🎻🎺🥁🎤🎸🦅
