Understanding the "Invisible" Hurdles of Dyslexia
Dyslexia is often described as a "hidden" challenge because it has nothing to do with intelligence, yet it impacts almost every aspect of a student's day. For many of the children I work with, the effects go far beyond struggling with a page of text.
The Academic Impact:
Decoding & Fluency: Words that should be familiar can feel like a puzzle every time they appear, making reading an exhausting physical and mental task.
The Energy Gap: Students with dyslexia often have to work twice as hard as their peers just to keep up, leading to deep academic fatigue by the end of the school day.
The Emotional Impact:
The Anxiety Loop: When a child fears being asked to read aloud or failing a spelling test, their brain enters "fight or flight" mode, which makes it even harder to process language.
Impact on Confidence: Many bright, creative students start to believe they aren't "smart" simply because their brains process information differently.
My Approach at iNSPiRE the CHiLD: I believe that when we remove the guesswork through explicit, multisensory instruction, that anxiety begins to lift. By using the Wilson Reading System®, I help students build the concrete skills they need to turn frustration into fluency.
If your child is struggling, please know that they aren't "behind"—they just need a different map for the journey. I am here to provide that map.
