Mary’s Ryken’s Mock Trial program fields a team that competes across Southern Maryland. Between 2007 and 2011, SMR teams won the 7th Court Circuit Championship four successive years. Mary’s Ryken Mock Trial program has set a standard of excellence typical of many programs in the state of Maryland. Mock Trial began in Maryland in 1983. Since that time, the tournament has blossomed to include more t

han 100 hundred teams and thousands of students. In the years that St. Mary’s Ryken has competed, we have created an impressive name for ourselves. We have placed four teams in the state′s “top eight.” In the last seven years, only once have we not made it to the circuit play-offs. Between 2007-2011, our team won the circuit championships and went on to the state tournament four successive years. Two years at the state-level teams have played against a team that would eventually go on to win the championship, losing by a combined total of three points across both years. As of June, 2013, no St. Mary’s Ryken team has ever had a losing season. In addition to team accolades, then program has seen members win individual awards as both attorneys and witnesses, given to students who have excelled in their particular roles.

The 2015 St. Mary’s Ryken Mock Trial Team continues to advance through the Seventh Circuit playoffs. The ten members of the team remain undefeated and are currently ranked 2nd in the 34 team field.

The team is comprised of: (seated, left to right) Dargenae Somerville, Ornella Bagazini (team captain), Gia Beaton; (back row, left to right) Alyssa Jones, Michaela Guy, Carson Phillips, Samuel Baldwin (attorney coach), Conor Flynn, Azara Seek, Anna Clews, and Faith Davis. Absent from the team photo are Ryken teachers, Leeanne Carr and Jane Connelly.

Congratulations to our 7th Court Circuit Runner Ups! Ryken's team had a great run last night after going undefeated in the season, losing by one point to Dr. Henry A. Wise in the championship round. A special congratulations to senior Jared Franz, who won the court district's overall best attorney award!
