MAPTS MAPTS, part of UAF Community and Technical College, has been empowering Alaska’s workforce since 1979.

We offer comprehensive training in both soft skills and hands-on industrial skills to support the state's resource industries and beyond. The University of Alaska established the Mining and Petroleum Training Service in 1979 specifically to deliver training, development and consulting services to the resource industries of Alaska. MAPTS has expanded its services to provide hands-on heavy equipment training for both the mining and the oil & gas industry. MAPTS has offices in Soldotna and Anchorage which serve the entire state. A talented staff of full-time and part-time professionals in various subject areas serve as hands-on and classroom instructors, consultants, and administrative coordinators. Instructors and Adjuncts have extensive training and experience in their fields.

📣 SHOUT OUT to MAPTS Training Program!

We recently received an incredibly meaningful message from Dan Twitchell, whose 18-year-old son, Daniel, and his son’s best friend, 19-year-old Nolan, attended our Heavy Equipment Operator Training this summer after graduating high school.

Dan shared how much he saw the experience impact both young men, not only through the hands-on heavy equipment operating and general maintenance skills they gained, but through the personal growth that happened along the way.

“In such a short period of time my son and his friend not only gained skills for heavy equipment operating and general maintenance but learned what it feels like to live in a camp setting away from home.… Getting up early each morning and being on time. Being responsible, accountable and hard working. I saw their confidence and hunger to enter the work force grow right in front of me.”

That is exactly why we do what we do. ❤️

At MAPTS, our goal is about more than teaching someone how to operate equipment. We want our students to leave with real-world skills, confidence, work ethic, accountability, and a stronger sense of what it means to be part of the workforce.

Today we proudly celebrate the successful completion of the MAPTS Rural Heavy Equipment Operator Training Camp!

Over the past two weeks, these dedicated students have demonstrated commitment, perseverance, and a strong work ethic while developing the skills needed to pursue careers in Alaska's heavy equipment, construction, mining, and resource development industries.

Through hands-on training and industry-recognized certifications, our graduates have taken an important step toward building sustainable careers and strengthening the workforce across Alaska.

We are incredibly proud of each graduate and look forward to seeing the impact they will make in their communities and throughout the industry.
