KPBSD IS HIRING! | Grants Management Specialist

Are you detail-oriented, skilled in accounting, and interested in supporting public education? The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District is seeking a Grants Management Specialist to join our Finance Department at the District Office in Soldotna.

This position plays an important role in helping KPBSD successfully manage grant funding that supports students, schools, and programs across the district.
Position: Grants Management Specialist
Location: KPBSD District Office | Soldotna, Alaska
Starting Wage: $30.99/hour
Schedule: 8 hours/day | 259 days/year

What will you do?
You’ll work closely with administrators, school and department staff, and the Finance team to:
• Support grant budgeting, accounting, reimbursement, and reporting
• Provide training and assistance to staff who manage grant-funded programs
• Maintain accurate financial records and prepare documentation for audits
• Assist with OASIS reporting, eRate funding, scholarships, payroll, and accounts payable
• Help ensure district grant funds are managed accurately, consistently, and responsibly
• Collaborate with schools and departments throughout KPBSD

We’re looking for someone with strong accounting, organizational, communication, technology, and problem-solving skills who enjoys working collaboratively and helping others succeed.

KPBSD Board of Education Approves Three-Year Agreements with KPEA and KPESA

On September 14, 2026, the KPBSD Board of Education approved three-year Collective Bargaining Agreements with the Kenai Peninsula Education Association (KPEA) and Kenai Peninsula Education Support Association (KPESA).

These agreements:
• Recognize the important work and contributions of our employees
• Support the recruitment and retention of high-quality staff
• Provide stability for our employees and the District.

KPBSD extends its appreciation to all members of the bargaining teams for their professionalism, persistence, and commitment throughout the process of reaching these agreements.

Warehouse Substitute Needed!

KPBSD Student Nutrition Services is looking for a dependable warehouse substitute to help keep our school kitchens supplied.

Full-time substitute coverage:

• 8 hours per day
• 6:00 a.m. start time
• Based in Soldotna
• Filling and organizing food and supply orders
• Loading/unloading and making deliveries to schools
• Valid Alaska driver’s license required
• Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs

Remember and Honor

Sometimes you get to see the impact of our schools years after a student graduates. This time, it happened because I needed welding done on my boat.
I took it to Nabholz Fabrication, owned by Kenai Central High School graduate Jacob Nabholz. Jacob and Austin Hobaugh, who also attended Kenai Central High School, did a great job. Even better was hearing them talk about the teachers who helped prepare them for the work they are doing today.
Both were quick to credit former KCHS teacher Steve Schoessler and current KCHS teacher Barry Hartman. They talked about the skills they learned and the opportunities these teachers gave them to work with their hands, solve problems, and develop skills they now use every day to make a living right here on the Kenai Peninsula.
For me, this is what Supporting Students in Life Success looks like.
Last year, KPBSD students earned over 900 industry recognized certifications through our Career and Technical Education programs. That is an incredible accomplishment, but stories like Jacob and Austin's remind us what is behind those numbers: students developing real skills and teachers helping them discover what they are capable of.
Our students will take many different paths after high school. For some, it will be college. For others, it may be a trade, an apprenticeship, military service, or going directly into the workforce. Our job is to give every student opportunities to discover their strengths, develop their skills, and be ready for whatever comes next.
Thank you, Steve and Barry, for the difference you have made for Jacob, Austin, and so many other students over the years. And thank you, Jacob and Austin, for the great work on my boat and for giving me another reminder of the lasting impact our teachers can have on the lives of their students.

KPBSD students have some incredible opportunities to explore careers and gain real world experience while they are still in high school.
This upcoming “Amped on Energy” experience is one example. High school juniors and seniors interested in energy, petroleum, environmental careers, trades, and technology can spend a week learning directly from industry professionals, touring worksites, and even participating in a North Slope Prudhoe Bay field experience.
Space is limited, so interested students and families should check out the information below.
And this is just one of many opportunities available to our students throughout the year. We encourage students and families to follow the KPBSD Career and Technical Education page to stay connected to upcoming CTE courses, industry certifications, career exploration, internships, and other hands on learning opportunities.
There is a lot happening in CTE across KPBSD!

We are partnering with Alaska Resource Education for a week-long energy camp focused on the North Slope & Cook Inlet producers. September 9 is FASD Awareness Day.
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders affect individuals and families in our communities, including students in our schools. Awareness and understanding matter, and learning more can help all of us better support individuals with FASD and recognize their strengths, experiences, and needs.
Frontier Community Services is hosting an FASD Awareness Day event on September 9, from 6:30 PM -7:30 PM, at the Soldotna Library. The evening will include the film “8 Keys for Adults Living with FASD,” followed by a conversation with cast member Gina Schumaker and FASD Program Coordinator Megan Wohlers.
We appreciate opportunities like this that bring our community together to learn, listen, and build greater understanding.
