🙏Thankful Thursday
We love the support everyone continues to show for our learning center. Last week, Valerie Marie donated the blue crash pad to our center. Then the other classrooms were jealous so I put out a call asking for another one for another classroom. Kim Britt Roden came through with another crash pad and some chart paper markers. Then Brittany Barnes got us art markers, sentence building puzzles, and a whisper phone. These gifts mean so much to the teachers and students at Scenic Land! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
I am also thankful for a perfect first field trip of the year to Flat Top Farm. All the feels!

Motivation Monday
Liam did a great job with our lesson on states of matter today. His SLP, Kayla Ursin, came by Scenic Land today to meet parents and collaborate on how best to meet the needs of our nonspeaking students. He was waiting really patiently then started to get a little frustrated. I didn’t know why. I asked him to tell me with his talker. He put, “need, need, your turn, your turn, your turn.” The water was an accidental button push. He was patiently waiting to work with Kayla and appropriately asked for his turn. We embrace all forms of communication at Scenic Land Learning.

✏️Stuff we WANT but don’t NEED! These are our dream board items. They aren’t a need because our supply drawers are looking pretty full right now. But these are some things that would make our learners very happy.
🖊️1. Chart paper markers…these are fatter than regular markers and show up better on the big poster papers that we do our lessons and assessments on. Regular markers get the job done, but there is a difference. Color makes everything better, so black alone is not enough. Sorry, not sorry.
🛏️2. Crash Pads- if you know you know. We had one crash pad donated for one of our classrooms but we could use one in two other classrooms.
⚖️3. Balance boards- we can take these new or used. Many of our students learn best when on the move. But sometimes we need them moving in one place. Balance boards allow them to do just that.

🔦Student Spotlight Saturday…💡
Liam!!!
Liam recently moved here with his family. Liam is non-speaking but is working on learning different forms of communication. We are starting to see just how much he knows. He just didn’t have a way to tell us until very recently. We support all forms of communication at Scenic Land Learning. Some of learners have a hard time showing us what they know on paper and worksheets. So we get creative with our assessments and always PRESUME COMPETENCE. I can’t wait to learn everything you haven’t been able to share, YET!

If you have a nonspeaking child and would like them to learn about alternative ways to communicate, we would love to support you on this journey. Come learn more about it on Monday with Kayla Ursin, our favorite SLP. She will be visiting our learning center on Monday from 9-11. Come by and see what Scenic Land Learning and Chitter Chatter Speech Therapy, LLC are all about.
