Middle School students- elective surveys for 2025-26 will be going out to your student emails next week. Be sure to access and complete as soon as you can to increase the chances of you getting your top choices!

Schedules will be available for all middle school students who attend Watermelon Welcome Tuesday, July 29, 5:30pm-7pm. Any student who doesn’t pick their schedule up then will receive it on the first day of school Thursday, July 31.
See below for your elective options:
Advanced Athletics- Advanced Athletics is structured to challenge students at a higher level, working in team work and peer cooperation, focusing on competitive skills, advanced conditioning, and strategic game play.
Art- Mid-School art students will be working on advanced levels of art forms. We will review color, line, shapes and design. This class will use all mediums in an art form. Students will use canvas, watercolor paper and clay. This class will also offer sculpting, with various materials, wood, cardboard, string plastic, foam etc. I will be encouraging individual exploration with expression. Students will also be studying perspective, the rule of drawing, this will involve group work. Students will create a portfolio, where all pieces will be kept, this is a requirement.
Art for the Exceptional Artist: This class will provide further exploration for the gifted artist. This class will offer the student the opportunity to design his or her art instructional plan. Students will choose the medium or art form of their choice. The student will be given instructional guidance and direction on improving their skill and knowledge. I will also be introducing students to more advanced techniques and various pieces of artwork. The class will offer art history and art literature, along with field trips to our community art galleries and art shows. All students will be required to keep a workpiece portfolio.
Creative Writing- This engaging and imaginative class invites students to explore the art of storytelling through a variety of writing styles, including short stories, poetry, journaling, and creative nonfiction, and more. Students will learn how to develop original ideas, build compelling characters, and craft vivid settings while discovering their unique writing voice. Whether new to writing or already passionate about it, students will find a supportive space to express themselves, share their work, and grow as confident, creative writers.
Elementary lunch guardians- help our young elementary students at lunch and lunch recess make good choices, navigate conflicts, learn to play games, etc. This elective is limited, so if you're interested, be sure to complete your request form as soon as you can!
Elementary teacher aide- help an elementary class with reading, student work, grading papers, or helping the teacher. This elective is extremely limited, so if you're interested, be sure to complete your request form as soon as you can!
History of Things- History's version of a STEAM class. Students who take this course can explore the history of all things. This course allows you the opportunity to personalize the class by requesting that research projects be designed based on your specific interests *or* you can choose from among the projects already available. If you took this course during the 24/25 school year, you will not be able to choose the same projects. **Both research and art are heavy components of this class. Each project assessment includes researched information presented using Google Slides and a poster, model, diorama display, or other form of art display that must be completed by hand (not on a computer). If you do not like to draw or build models, you may want to consider a different elective. You will also be required to present each of your research/art projects to your classmates at the end of each project cycle as part of your graded requirements.
Life Skills: Life Skills is a hands-on class designed to help students develop essential skills for success in school and everyday life. This course is organized into engaging units that that focus on key areas such as organization, time management, goal setting, financial literacy, and personal responsibility.
P.E.- Physical Education (PE) is designed to promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong wellness habits. Students participate in a range of activities that develop motor skills, enhance cardiovascular health, build muscular strength, and reinforce cooperative play.
Spanish- A class in which students develop and practice speaking the Spanish language gradually throughout the school year through reading books, stories, and debates. They will develop their ear for their native Spanish through music, documentaries, movies, and other social media. Students will learn about the history of the Spanish language, the culture and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries, and will learn and research the customs, festivals, music, and dances of Hispanic peoples, presenting what they have learned to the CVCS student community. Students will develop tolerance, research, and self-criticism regarding other cultures around them.
Student Council- this is an opportunity to participate in student leadership of the school. You will run for office and fill a position. You will help set up school events, advocate for the student body, attend meetings with adults, and many other exciting things! This is a great opportunity for leadership.
Study Hall- this will be a place where you can complete assignments, study for exams, make up work from absences, and/or engage in other academic pursuits (i.e. Science Olympiad prep). This is not a space where you will be permitted to have general social time, play computer games, doodle, nap, etc. Please only choose this elective if you are committed to making the most of each study hall session so as to make this a productive space for all students who choose to be in this elective. Each session will begin with a 30 minute silent, independent period, followed by opportunities for you to quietly collaborate with others who are assigned group assignments with you, or who need peer support on work in common classes.
Yearbook- you will work to create the 2025-26 yearbook for CVCS! You may attend events to take pictures, plan and design yearbook pages, and request information from the community to complete the yearbook. If you are interested in any type of scrapbooking or digital design, you should consider this class. You will also interview CVCS students who participate in different activities throughout the year to write articles about them for the CVCS's newsletter. *One thing to note, you will not be allowed to use your phone to take pictures during school hours. You will be assigned school owned cameras to use during school hours.
