NMT team wins Sandia National Labs Capstone Design Challenge!
(Reported by faculty advisor Dr. Curtis O'Malley.)

Based on the technical merit of their design and creativity of their design the NMT team won the 2021 Sandia National Labs Capstone Design Challenge. It was a very tight competition with UNM and NMSU providing fierce competition. The NMT Mechanical Engineering Dept will host the traveling championship trophy until the 2022 Challenge Competition next spring. The NMT team is comprised of Mechanical Engineering students Mateo Sanchez (team lead), Ben Brown, Meghan Cephus, Ethan Darnell, Kyle Mace, Tyler Mobraten, and Elijah Morris. The team was advised by Mr. Hollis Dinwiddie and Dr. Curtis O'Malley. The NMT team was supported by NMT Alumni David Siler who served as the team's mentor from Sandia National Labs. Please join me in congratulating the students on a job well done.

Congratulations to Dr. Michael Hargather & his team!

Lawrence Livermore Lab’s Weapon Physics and Design (WPD) Academic Collaboration Team (ACT) University Program has awarded this year’s ACT-UP awards, including one to NMT: "Quantitative Optical Measurement of Shock Interactions Around High-Velocity Projectiles."

Dr. Hargather’s group will investigate the complex flowfields around high-velocity projectiles using optical measurement techniques. The award is supporting grad student Jason Falls (shown in photo working on the setup of the schlieren system at the Ballistic Sciences Laboratory at EMRTC on the NMT campus.)

NMT Class of 2020!!!

The place holder URL for the NMT 2020 Commencement eCeremony (https://nmt-videos.online/commencement2020) has been established (see image below)

Please share this link/QR code with your family and friends. If you click on it, there will be a countdown to the Saturday’s eCeremony. We will be utilizing Panopto, YouTube, as well as FaceBook and Instagram to broadcast the event. There will be closed caption features available on Panopto and YouTube that can be turned on and off as needed. More information regarding the NMT 2020 Commencement eCeremony can be found on Tech’s Graduation and Commencement Website.

Our traditional program brochure that was usually handed out at the ceremony has been converted to a virtual Commencement eProgram. This interactive eProgram will also be sent out to everyone in advance of Saturday’s ceremony, so keep an eye open for it within your Tech email and posted on the Graduation and Commencement Website.

On Saturday, May 16th, there will be a Pre-Commencement Slideshow and Video Presentation starting at 8:45 a.m. MST. This will be streamed on the same Commencement eCeremony link with the official eCeremony beginning at 9:00 a.m. The ceremony will run approximately 90-100 minutes.

Immediately following the Commencement eCeremony, many of the Departments will be hosting a Post-Commencement Reception for their students and advisees. Departments will send out the URL for the Zoom meeting room receptions. We will also place a list all of the reception at the back of the Commencement eProgram and on the Graduation and Commencement Website.

Please stop by and allow your instructors and TAs to congratulate you on your accomplishment. You may also run into a few of your classmates. Some of you may be planning to stop in and then bounce out to your own little gatherings before you turn your attention back to your family and friend gather with you remotely at your homes.
