Social Circle Self-Defense is a nonprofit ministry of CrossRoads Baptist Church in Social Circle, GA. We teach Chinese Kajukenbo and Women's Self-Defense.
Update: Unfortunately for now, we are closed. Social Circle Self-Defense is a not-for-profit martial arts school organized to study and practice the techniques of Chinese Kajukenbo (as taught by Professor Julian Sims, 8th Degree) and Chuan-Fa Women’s Self-defense. We are a ministry of CrossRoads Baptist Church, located at 227 County Road 229, Social Circle, GA (Newton County). Chinese Kajukenbo is
a Christian based martial art, but not a Christian martial art. We do not learn scripture for advancement, but we do strongly encourage our students to be followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. New students can enroll at any time and must be at least 14 years of age. Younger students may be considered on a case by case basis based on their maturity level. There is no contract to sign, but an initial fee may be assessed to join, which will include the cost of a class t-shirt. Class dues are $40 per month and scholarships may be available for those facing financial challenges at the Chief Instructor’s discretion. Each additional family member is half price. All fees are due the first Tuesday of each month and are not tax deductible as a church contribution since you are receiving a benefit. We understand that in today’s world families are very busy, especially around the holidays and summer, so there are no class dues for December or July. Checks should be made payable to Social Circle Self-Defense. Everyone training at any Social Circle Self-Defense class or event will be required to sign a waiver and release before training. A copy will be maintained by the class and a copy will be given to the church for insurance purposes. Anyone training with any Social Circle Self-Defense staff assumes all risk and liabilities. Students and instructors are responsible for their own insurance and medical coverage. Social Circle Self-Defense or anyone connected with Chinese Kajukenbo is not liable for any injuries under any circumstance. Our school offers several different paths based on the student’s interest. All students are welcome to come and train at each class. All students will be required to learn the Kajukenbo Prayer, but Belt testing is not required to train. For those students that choose to test for belts, more will be required including, but not limited to, the purchase of a black school gi, study and testing of information about Kajukenbo, its history, instructors, as well as other styles, and sparring with other students and instructors. Except for black belt testing, there are no testing fees. Students not interested in belt testing can do all of the above, but it is not required. Regular classes are Tuesday nights from 7 to 8:00 PM. Advanced class from 8 to 8:45. Our official class attire will be a red t-shirt for under belts, a black t-shirt for black belts and black pants. This should be worn on special occasions and when special guests are scheduled to attend. We train in street clothes and street shoes for realism. Since we are training you to defend yourself on the street, you should train in what you would be wearing. This will help you to better understand the limitation in street clothes that you may not experience in a martial arts gi. Jewelry, watches, rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. should not be worn during class. Students not adhering to the schools code of conduct will be asked to leave. See Code of Conduct. Social Circle Self-Defense also offers Women’s Self-Defense seminars to students and non-students. Fees for the seminars vary based on location, duration, and availability. The full six week seminar is $40 for the first participant and $20 for any additional family member of that participant. A two day and one day seminar is also available at $20 per participant. This fee is waived for the 2.5 hour church sponsored session held at various times throughout the year. The same basic material is covered in all seminars, but the full 6 week seminar gives participants more time to progress between sessions, a deeper dive into the material, training equipment for you to take home after the course in completed, and more chances to ask questions about information covered. The full 6 week Women’s Self-Defense seminar is on Thursday nights from 7:30 to 8:30 at CrossRoads Baptist Church. Two day and one day 8 hour seminars will be offered on weekends. Locations will very. Check the school calendar for scheduled seminars. Seminars will be scheduled based on interest and space available.

Self defense is a personal responsibility. Please get a quality instructor and training. A protection order is a piece of paper.
