Our library has never looked more magical! A massive thank you to every single participant in our August Hot Air Balloon Reading Challenge. 🎨 airborne with creativity, your incredible hot air balloons—packed with thoughtful book reviews, wonderful recommendations, original drawings, and pictures—have completely transformed our space into a gallery of stories. Walking through the library feels like taking a trip through the clouds! ☁️❤️

We are so proud of all of our SCES students who participated in our Summer Reading Challenges! ❤️📖

Students who completed our Story Walk at Friendship Park earned a full-size candy bar of their choice! Students who completed the A–Z Reading Challenge earned a special goodie bag filled with fun surprises—including a special coin for our SCES Book Vending Machine! 🪙📚

We love celebrating our readers and helping students discover that reading is an adventure worth taking. We can't wait to celebrate August Reading Challenge Participants next month!

We are so excited to share two beautiful additions to Social Circle Elementary School!

🧺 NEW Picnic Tables
Thanks to funds raised through our SCES Yearbook, we were able to purchase new picnic tables to create a welcoming outdoor space for our school community. These tables will provide teachers with an outdoor learning space, give parents a place to enjoy lunch with their students, and create another area for students to learn, connect, and enjoy time together.

🏫 Historical Tributes
Yearbook funds also helped make it possible to add historical tributes celebrating the history of our school. These special additions allow us to honor where we've been and celebrate the students, teachers, staff, and families who have helped make SCES what it is today. 📚❤️

📅 A Quick Reminder for Our Families
While we are excited about our new picnic tables and look forward to welcoming parents to enjoy lunch with their students, we are currently focused on establishing cafeteria routines and expectations for the beginning of the school year.

As shared in our parent newsletter, we kindly ask that families wait until September to join their students for lunch. This will give our students and staff time to establish consistent routines and expectations in the cafeteria.

Last week Mrs. Ellis’s 5th grade class had a fantastic time learning about classroom routines, expectations, and what it means to be a GREAT TEAM player!

Through fun and engaging activities, students practiced working together, communicating, showing respect, and supporting one another.

We are excited for our first full week with students this week!

Dr. Sullivan's 6th grade classroom was full of teamwork, communication, and problem-solving today! Students tackled a back-to-school STEM challenge by using only strings and rubber bands to stack cups into different formations. Along the way, they practiced our classroom routines and procedures, while learning what it truly means to be a TEAM player: Trustworthy, Empathetic, A+ Attitude, and Motivated. Watching them encourage one another, persevere through challenges, and celebrate their successes together was the perfect way to kick off the school year!

The school year is officially underway, and the library is ready for our readers to embark on a new adventure this year! As we get settled in, here are a few important library updates you won't want to miss:

📖 Summer Reading Logs Due Monday (8/10): Don't forget to turn in your completed summer reading logs to Mrs. Cottingham by Monday, August 10th! Every student who turns one in will receive a sweet goody bag AND a special book token to use at our BOOK VENDING MACHINE! 🪙

📰 August Library Newsletter: Check out the attached August newsletter to see all the exciting things we have planned in the library this month! All K-6 classes will come for library class this month and begin checking out books(Pre-K will begin coming in January).

🎯 August Reading Challenge: Get a head start on your reading goals! Our August Reading Challenge is attached and will be due Friday, September 11th.

We are looking forward to an incredible, book-filled year ahead with all of our readers! 🚀

🎉 What a week! Our FIRST WEEK of school was full of smiles, laughter, and so much fun! 🎒✨

From sipping on sweet Jitter Juice to cure those first-day butterflies to embarking on exciting classroom scavenger hunts and team-building games, our students hit the ground running!

The lunchroom turned into a full-blown dance party with everyone singing along to the Y.M.C.A. and Chicken Banana while showing off their best dance moves! On the playground, old friendships were reconnected and so many new ones were made.

If week one is any indicator, this is going to be an AWESOME school year! Thank you to our incredible teachers, staff, and families for making this week so special.
