Francis J. Redding School of Classical Ballet

Francis J. Redding School of Classical Ballet Classical Ballet classes geared towards your needs! Adult classes, Pre Professional Classes and training, as well as summer workshops for pre ballet.

The Cecchetti Method is a ballet technique and training system devised by the Italian Ballet Master, Enrico Cecchetti. The training system is especially concerned with anatomy within the confines of classical ballet technique, and seeks to develop the essential characteristics of dance in its students through a rigid training regime. The goal is for students to learn to dance by studying and inter

nalizing the basic principles in an effort to become self reliant rather than imitating the movements of their teacher. Cecchetti trained dancers have achieved places in ballet and dance companies all over the world. Well trained Cecchetti dancers have a purity of line and simplicity of style which enables them to take their place in dance companies of many genres of classical ballet.

Today on José Limón's birthday, we're highlighting his role in the Border Crossings exhibition Mexican-born Limón was one of the most influential and radical choreographers of the 20th-century. A radical intellect whose dances bear witness to injustice and the capacity of dance to educate and teach tolerance, Limón gifted future generations a bodily archive and choreographic repertoire that spoke to cross-cultural hybridity and his own political acumen.

Limón, pictured here in the role of the Revolucionario, stands omnipotent, his powerful build wrapped in bullets, defiant, triumphant arms uplifted in defiance, his tattered clothing the mark of a laborer.

Check out this and other archival photos and objects around Limón at the Border Crossings show, up through 3/16.

Footage of the aged, barely-moving Russian choreographer giving corrections to brilliant dancers now looks almost funny, but these films, then and now, are a peek inside a creative genius.
