Talk about a memorable graduation! When Mary Lou Costabile walked the stage at WTC back in 1980, her graduation gown was hiding her pregnant belly! 🎓👶

After WTC, Mary Lou put her education on pause to focus on family life and raising her children. But her passion for learning never faded! Years later, she returned to earn her bachelor’s degree at Abilene Christian University and went on to dedicate an incredible 31 years to education with Colorado City ISD. As an elementary Social Studies and PE teacher, plus a dedicated volleyball, basketball, and cheer coach, she shaped the lives of countless young students and athletes.

Talent and dedication clearly run in the family, too. Mary Lou is the proud grandmother of Alexxus Antonick, the talented local painter behind many wonderful murals across Snyder, Colorado City, and beyond! 🖌️✨

Once a Western Texas College Westerner, always a Westerner! 💚

We had a wonderful visit with alumnus Adam Owen (Class of '05)! Adam earned his Associate Degree in Golf Course and Sports Field Turf Management and went on to found Owen Diesel, LLC.

He stopped by to see us while waiting for his daughter, Brently, during New Student Orientation as she prepares to start her freshman year at WTC! You could truly see how proud Adam is to pass the torch to the next generation of Westerners.

Welcome to the WTC family, Brently! We are so excited to see all that you accomplish!

Meet Joel Nyaboga James (top photo) and Antony Amukhale (bottom photo)!

These two inspiring non-traditional students are proof that it’s never too late to chart a new path. Balancing full-time jobs while stepping out of their comfort zones, Joel and Antony have joined forces as friends and classmates to embark on an exciting journey through the WTC Electrical Lineman Program.

To support their hard work and dedication, both Joel and Antony were awarded the Davidson Charitable Foundation Scholarship! ✨

Juggling full-time work, life, and rigorous hands-on training takes serious grit, but their shared goal to expand their skill sets, build a brighter future, and power up their careers keeps them moving forward together.

Join us in congratulating Joel and Antony on their scholarship awards and cheering them on as they climb higher in their futures at Western Texas College!

Every masterpiece has a story, and this one ends with a signature! ✍️💚

Alumni Alexxus Antonick officially completed our new mural last week, adding the final piece of the puzzle. Sparked by an idea from Dr. Laurie Sharp and made possible by the INSPIRE Program through the WTC Foundation, this project grew from a vision into a vibrant addition to our community.

Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this artwork to life. Keep watching our page, we'll be sharing details about the upcoming ribbon cutting very soon! ✂️✨

Today, we honor and celebrate the lives, art, and enduring spirit of Pat and Monty Blakely, whose impact on our community and Western Texas College continues to inspire us.

Monty, a Snyder native and a deeply gifted artist at heart, spent years expressing his creative passion through painting and sculpture. He learned under mentors like Ty Brunson and John Gibson. Pat, through determination and dedication, earned her degree from WTC in 1985 before becoming the founding director of the college’s Image program, later continuing her work in the art museum world.

Together, their shared love for art, community, and education created a powerful legacy. Through the Pat & Monty Blakely Scholarship, their passion lives on, opening doors for WTC students to pursue their education and fulfill their potential.

We are deeply grateful for the mark they left on our WTC family and community! 💙✨

Today, we pause to look back on and celebrate a truly remarkable life. Born on July 2, 1933, Betty Burrow brought so much warmth, dedication, and grace into our world.

For 23 incredible years, Mrs. Burrow didn't just teach fifth grade at Ira; she shaped generations, inspired minds, and became a cornerstone of our community. From the 1954-55 school year until her retirement, Ira was her home, her passion, and her only school.

Whether you remember her sharing her famous seashell collection during oceanography lessons, guiding us through the DARE program, or encouraging us to find our voices through creative writing, Mrs. Burrow always brought her whole heart into the classroom. It’s no wonder she was named the District 18 PTA Outstanding Educator of the Year in 1988!

To ensure her incredible legacy of dedication continues to uplift future generations, the Betty Burrow Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established at Western Texas College. This scholarship will help future Ira graduates further their education, keeping her passion for learning alive forever.
