We are less then 1️⃣ WEEK away from Registration and we are getting geared up for the 2026 Dairy Project! Below is what you need to know about the project. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out! 🥛🐄

What? Youth will borrow a young dairy heifer from Simply Natural Jersey Farm to complete this project. Heifers will remain on the farm and all activities except the show will be held at the farm.

Where? Youth will learn animal handling skills, along with working knowledge of dairy cows and the industry to show Jersey heifers.

Who? Any youth ages 5-18 years old may participate- no experience needed. Youth must be 5 years old as of January 1st, 2026.

How? There will be 20 spots held for new participants and 30 spots held for past participants. New participants sign up July 20th at 8 AM and past participants sign up July 21st at 8 AM. Click on the link and follow directions on our page! You will pay $40 per participant through Eventbrite!

When? You are required to attend at least one practice session each week during the project. Practice sessions will be Monday and Thursday from August 24th to October 8th(5-6:30 PM). You must arrive by 5:45 PM! October 10th is Show Day and attendance is required!

Greene County has a new Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) Agent, Velvet Tyndall and she wants to hear from the citizens of Greene County! Since it has been some time since Greene County has had an FCS Agent, having an understanding of what the community is needing, is important, and getting that feedback is vital for effective programming.

This survey takes just a few minutes, but can provide crucial information to us at Greene County Cooperative Extension regarding needed programs for our FCS, but we cannot do that without the input of the citizens of Greene County!

The EPA recently announced a two-year registration for over-the-top dicamba products (Engenia, Tavium, and Stryax), NC State Extension plans to continue the Auxin Herbicides-Best Management Practices for 2026. In addition to the NCSU Extension training, applicators are welcome to fulfill their training requirement via trainings offered by manufacturers, BASF, Bayer, and Syngenta.

Although encouraged, applicators using the Enlist products are NOT required to receive training.

Given the success of the hybrid trainings, we will continue that in 2026. See details below for more specifics.

We will have seed envelopes and supplies available to split packages.

Floating means come when you are available and swap with those that are there at that time.

Greene County Extension is partnering with the Agromedicine Institute to offer respirator fit testing and medical clearance. Fit testing will be offered on January 29, 2026 in the Elaney Wood Farmers Market (470 US-13, Snow Hill, NC 28580) by appointment only, please contact the Greene County Extension Office: 252-747-5831 to make an appointment.

Fees:
• Respirator fit testing and medical clearance: $55
• Medical clearance or fit testing (one service): $30
• You are not required to obtain medical clearance through the Agromedicine Institute; however, if you obtain medical clearance from another source, you must bring proof of your medical clearance on the day of the fit test.

Important:
• Please bring a clean respirator that you plan to use to the fit test.
• You must be clean shaved.
• Again, if you have already received your medical clearance please bring proof or you will not be able to be fit tested unless you do your medical clearance again.
