Community service is a core value at GEC. Last Friday, students and staff embarked on the first of several schoolwide community service days this year. Cougars volunteered cleaning up roads for the Adopt-A-Highway program, serving at the senior center and food bank, lending a hand at the local animal shelter, washing buses at the transportation center, and helping at other schools across the district.

What is one thing that makes the Cougars unique? Our commitment to give back to the community that surrounds and supports us.

All students participated in summer reading workshops this week led by our English teachers, Mrs. Huston and Mrs. Lewis.

Using their summer reading books, students were asked to think beyond the narrative through a critical literacy lens. This week, students will work on writing a community action event plan to address a societal issue found in their book. 📚☀️

SO MUCH FUN at Kings Dominion yesterday! Our beginning of the year field trip has us off to a lively start. We rode all the roller coasters, ate all the good food, and spent time building our GEC community. 🎢🎡

Team Building Day! Our students participated in a school-wide board game today to help them get to know each other and build community. They played a variety of games and challenges that taught them how to work together, and they competed to see what group could get to the end of the board first. 🍭🧩

It’s the first day of a new school year, and we’re excited to have our students back on campus!
