Students in the STREAM program at Snoqualmie Elementary have an opportunity to participate in the Noetic Learning Math Contest twice a year. The goal of the competition is to encourage students' interest in math, to develop their problem-solving skills, and to inspire them to excel in the STEM fields.

Congratulations to all our participants and winners! The contest results not only demonstrate our students' exceptional mathematical talents, but also their dedication and hard work.

Our fourth graders traded their desks for discovery this week with a walking field trip to Meadowbrook Farm, where history wasn't just something to read about—it was something to experience.

Students rolled up their sleeves to create leather medicine pouches, transformed wool into yarn, tasted tea brewed from stinging nettle, and learned to play Bitali, a traditional beaver teeth dice game. Along the way, they explored the rich history of the region's native plants and animals while gaining insight into traditional tools, crafts, and everyday life.

From hands-on activities to powerful storytelling, the day offered a meaningful connection to the people and traditions that have shaped our local community for generations.

A heartfelt thank you to the presenters who generously shared their knowledge and to the parent chaperones who helped make this memorable adventure possible.

Lights, camera, Cougar News!

The latest episode of the Cougar News Network, produced by our talented SES fifth graders, features third-grade SBA reactions, a segment about what kindergartners love about their moms, and an interview with former Cougars and current Wildcat baseball players about sportsmanship!

A big shoutout to this month’s production team — Ellie Jensen, Gautham Pudi, Greyson Everson, Jackson Messenger, Keegan Face, Teddy Lindelef, and Vander Holman — for their hard work, teamwork, and on-screen energy. Be sure to check out the episode at https://tinyurl.com/cougarnews-may and see our young broadcasters in action!

Today fifth graders from SES and CVES took a field trip to Snoqualmie Middle School with their teachers to have lunch and take a tour of the building. Students spent the day enjoying lunch, touring the building with their teachers, and getting a first look at the classrooms, learning spaces, and indoor and outdoor areas they'll soon be calling home. Along the way, they heard from SMS Principal Megan Botulinski about what a typical school day looks like and got a glimpse of all the opportunities that await them next year.

We will miss these Cougars so much next year, but we know they have wonderful things in store for them as SMS Eagles!

Last week, Mrs. Heinz's first graders welcomed their families into the classroom for a special Readers' Theater performance featuring beloved fairy tales such as Stone Soup, The Little Red Hen, and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Students proudly showcased their reading fluency, expression, and confidence as they brought these classic stories to life.

It has been wonderful to watch these young Cougars learn and grow throughout the school year. We are so proud of all they have accomplished and can't wait to see the great things they will do as second graders next year!

Yesterday, the dedicated athletes in our Let Me Run after-school boys' running club laced up their shoes and took on the Spring Fest 5K at Redmond City Hall!

Our Cougars gave it their all, showing incredible perseverance, determination, and heart as they crossed the finish line. Whether they were chasing a personal best or simply pushing themselves to complete the race, every runner demonstrated the confidence and grit they've been building throughout the season.

We are so proud of these young athletes and all the hard work they've put in over the past several months. Congratulations on a fantastic season and a strong finish!

Extra Extra!

Since late February, SES STREAM students in second, third, and fourth grades have been hard at work producing the STREAMline News — a student-created newspaper focused on sharing good news from around the Snoqualmie Valley.

To help with the project, SES registrar Amy Bruce, a former reporter, and Grace Gorenflo from "The Snoqualmie Valley Record" visited students to teach them about journalism and how to write effective news articles.

Each student selected a topic connected to the “good news” theme, then conducted interviews and research to develop their stories. Through this hands-on project, students strengthened their writing, communication, and research skills while learning what it takes to be a real reporter.

Great job to our SES STREAM journalists for sharing positive stories with the community!

Science came to life this week as our fifth graders headed outdoors for an exciting exploration of Kimball Slough!

Guided by AP students from Mount Si High School, our Cougars rotated through a series of interactive science stations designed to help them discover the incredible ecosystem right in their own backyard. Along the way, students investigated biodiversity, learned how to identify native plants, explored local animal habitats, examined water quality, and uncovered the many connections that make this environment thrive.

The hands-on activities gave students the chance to think like real scientists—observing, questioning, and exploring the natural world around them. Even better, they had the opportunity to learn from Mount Si students who shared their knowledge, enthusiasm, and passion for science.

What an amazing day to be a Cougar – or a Wildcat! Our former SES students who are graduating this year returned to where it all began for a triumphant lap around the school at the annual MSHS Cat Walk. Students and staff lined the halls to cheer on our 2026 grads as they completed a literal walk down memory lane. Thanks to all the SES community who showed the love for our graduating seniors, and congrats to this amazing group of young adults who make us proud to be Cougars! We can't wait to see what the future has in store for you!
