The Leah Stillwell Duo is going to have a great show at this year's North Bend Jazz Walk Saturday, April 25.

Born and raised in Western Washington, Leah Stillwell is influenced and inspired by the diverse flavors and talents of the local jazz community. With a fresh new approach to a classic art form, Leah gracefully captures the style and charisma of jazz with her sultry voice and laid back expression. Calm and alluring, her tunes will relax you into the finest essence of vocal jazz. Leah is joined by Kyle Matsuta on keyboard.

Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate, skilled, and student-centered Voice Teacher to join our growing singing school. The ideal candidate is an engaging educator who values strong vocal technique, artistic development, and building community through music. This role involves teaching private and/or group voice lessons while fostering confidence, creativity, and performance readiness in students of all ages.
Key Responsibilities
• Teach weekly private and/or group voice lessons to students (children, teens, and/or adults)
• Develop customized lesson plans based on each student’s goals and skill level
• Instruct in healthy vocal technique, breath managemant, tone production, range development, and musicianship
• Prepare students for performances, recitals, auditions, and community events
• Provide constructive feedback and track student progress
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging studio environment
• Communicate professionally with parents and adult students
• Collaborate with fellow instructors to support studio events and community performances
Qualifications
• Degree in Vocal Performance, Vocal Pedagogy, Music Education, or equivalent professional experience
• Strong understanding of vocal pedagogy and vocal health
• Experience teaching voice lessons (private or group)
• Ability to teach a variety of styles (e.g., contemporary, musical theatre, pop, classical, etc.)
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Organized, reliable, and professional
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with young singers
• Piano proficiency for lesson accompaniment
• Performance experience
• Interest in building community engagement through music

• Strong vocal technique knowledge

• Classroom management (for group classes)

90 minutes | "Voices in Sync: Singing from Solo to Harmony"
This class is for young adults (ages 17-35ish) who want to reconnect with their voice — or finally give themselves permission to use it. We focus on healthy technique, vocal freedom, and expression without judgment. Whether you’re a performer, a hobbyist, or someone who’s always wanted to sing but felt held back, this class is about building confidence, coordination, and joy in your voice.

In addition to individual work, we incorporate small group singing to explore harmony, blend, and how your voice functions within a chord or ensemble. Working in groups helps you develop deeper listening skills, pitch awareness, and trust — not just in your ear, but in your coordination and connection. The goal is to understand how your voice belongs in music, both on its own and with others.

POLICY UPDATE!
Hello, all! With the waterways in the area already being very full and the talk of continued heavy rains, I am realizing that I will need to update our policies to include cancellations due to flooding. These are similar to our snow cancellation policies.

Your options, when the roads and area are not safe for driving are:
1. Online lessons with your teacher. This should be possible at your usual lesson times. However, this could be negatively impacted by internet and power variability. Please give your teacher a bit of notice, if you plan to go this route.

2. Group classes for those whose lessons have been impacted by the weather. We are currently coming up with some SUPER FUN, musical, and educational themes. We will offer several options of time/day/theme. These will be offered during upcoming breaks or studio class weeks. We will iron out details this week. Watch for an email with updated information later this week.
If you have any theme ideas that you would love to participate in, please let me know by replying to this email! Currently, some ideas floating around are: songwriting, auditioning, vocal techniques of varying styles, music games, etc.
