For those who want to know what’s on my wish list of donations…This would be a great learning tool to have at Happy Path Meadows, especially on the rainy days when we have our unmounted lessons, but it’s out of my budget to buy. Do you know anyone who would be willing to buy this and donate it to the barn for educational purposes? Please share!!

Fairy fingers, not toes! (My students will get this inside joke!)

When a foal is born, it doesn’t come out with hard hooves right away. Instead, its feet are covered in soft, rubbery layers that horse people call “fairy fingers” or “golden slippers.”

These little coverings keep the mother safe while the foal is still inside her, protecting her from sharp kicks. They also help during birth, so the mare isn’t hurt when the foal makes its way into the world.

The moment the foal is born, those golden slippers start to dry out. As the foal takes its first steps, they peel away on their own, leaving behind the tough hooves it will need for life.

It doesn’t hurt the foal, this is just nature’s way of making sure both mother and baby are safe, and that the foal is ready to stand and walk within hours of being born.

Took Meeko for a walk yesterday with my friend and her horse, and we found some friends and surprises along the way!

Saved in the Nick of Time aka Nick. It was a really hard day today having to say goodbye to such a sweet boy. He was saved by his mama, Kim, a couple of years ago from a kill pen in Texas, so he could live his senior years here. Today he crossed the Rainbow Bridge and joined Blue, Charlie, and Bella. We will miss you sweet boy so, so much.
