"When a pistol locks open, if you use the slide release all the time to release it, it'll wear down the catch on the slide and eventually it will stop locking open.

Technically, this is correct.

However,,,

The working parts of a firearm need regular maintenance and care, the slide stop is no magical exception. Just like springs and barrels get worn out eventually so will slide stops.

So, if you REPAIR AND REPLACE THINGS AS NEEDED, then you can do whatever you want.
Keep in mind using proper technique.

However again,,,,

This also depends on the age, make and model of each firearm. Today’s metals are better than yesteryears.

I had a HK USP 9 compact that eventually the slide would not lock every time. Investigating I found the square shoulder on the slide where the slide stop/release lever locks was worn and starting to round.
I would also use caution when running your 1911’s

Here’s the last However,,,

I have never had an issue with either Glocks or Sigs by using the slide release lever for my critical reloads. (speed/emergency. Whatever,,,)

Where have all the Patriots gone?

Today I journeyed into town which is over 10 miles through residential, business and school zone areas.
Well over 1000 homes, 4 schools, 4 fire stations, 6 banks and 12 shopping centers I counted only 51 USA flags.

1 Post Office also had a POW flag
4 Schools
1 Vehicle proudly displayed 3
3 Fire Stations- 1 had an empty flag pole
42 resident homes

To my surprise, No flags were raised at any Banks, Shopping Centers, Curches or Restaurants.
