Still my favorite light mount, SWVL
Works with vast majority of lights made for rifle mounting, loads of options for mounting based upon rail design and laser unit being used (or not). And if you want the light further forward to mitigate shadow off your can, you can get the SME extender which I also have on a couple of mine.
Equipment is never the solution to skill gaps, but good equipment solves equipment gaps.

Promethean, PA Chapter
An program, Promethean is a members club for which there are currently two chapters: Louisiana (LA) and Pennsylvania (PA). The PA chapter is hosted by , and this past weekend we completed our second meetup for the 2026 season.
Last year we focused on basic patrolling, and fire and movement/ fire and maneuver. This culminated with the group breaking down into squads and fireteams, moving to contact and occupying a SBF and Assault Position. Using time as primary, visual signal as alternate, and comms as contingency signals the group successfully executed six live fire and maneuver assaults using the BFR Unknown Distance Range. Specifically a target array of a technical with dismounts. This required a shift fire, into a cease fire where the SBF became overwatch as maneuver withdrew from their raid. The squads linked up at an Attack Position and ultimately we withdrew to the Assembly Area once the day was done.
This year we’re sustaining the patrolling skills, and working the fire and movement/ fire and maneuver into the close quarters environment. The cutting event for the year will be live fire (simunitions), full mission profile raids utilizing the BFR two-story shoot house.
The LA Chapter has been training for a couple years longer than PA, and they have accomplished some amazing tasks as well. These folks are a mix of everyday citizens, and they are able to conduct themselves well in high risk environments. Leaving with renewed appreciation for what is and is not an actual stressful situation in their lives.
If you want to join us for training, cookouts, and some light hearted tom foolery after hours head to the OTG website and apply.

In extremis a person can find themselves needing to move against an adversary on their own. Officers responding to calls, a team that gets split during an engagement, or a private citizen during a home invasion.
The principles between being solo, in a pair, or on a team don’t change; techniques remain largely the same as well. Solo/ Duo CQB focuses on the nuances of being on your own or hopefully having a capable partner.
This class will include force on force! Around 10 hours of total training will pit students against one another as bad guys and good guys. This allows for trail of techniques, while also seeing things from the adversary side of why some things work and some things do not.
Hit the OTG website (link in bio) for full details and snagging your spot.

Wrapped up our first weekend with Promethean PA chapter. Last year we focused on patrolling, this year we’re focused on CQB.
We sustained skills learned last year by patrolling to training areas and ranges, while adding and refining skills related to CQB.
If you’re interested in training with the group, fill out an application on the OTG website.

Coming up next at is the Full Team CQB class, 19-22 February. Recon, isolate, gain a foothold, seize.
FTCQB class expands upon the Small Unit class into having multiple small teams making entry and moving through a structure. What we’ll cover over four days:
Intro to CQB, day 1- fast paced, long day (expect 10+ hours of training) that will put students on the same sheet of music, understanding principles and fundamentals of CQB and common terminology and communication methods.
Intro to mechanical breaching, day 2- we’ll cover the use of tools such as Halligan, sledge, ram, and more to gain positive breach through exterior doors, as well as interior breaching considerations. This will build into full house runs on the fourth day.
Squad/ Troop dynamics, day 3- third day will focus on deconfliction between multiple teams making entry into a single structure, from single and multiple breach points. We will also cover aspects of leaders recon and establishing a cordon around a target. This will be another long day, with lots of reps and teams getting runs through the house and clarifying hallway procedures.
Full house, day 4- final day will cover room priorities of work, processing known and unknown threats, contingency considerations, and the class will get reps working from breach to secure. These runs will grow in complexity by opening up more and more of the shoot house, and will include “shoot” and “no shoot” targets. BFR has blue bolts and simunitions for 5.56, AR platform rifles, or you can bring airsoft or (or similar) devices. There will be no Force on Force for this class.
We will only be running this program twice this year. If you have trained with us before, or are on a tactical team this is a class you don’t want to miss.

Adding S.M.E. to my SWVL mounted lights; moving the light closer to the muzzle with can mounted mitigates shadow cast by the can when the light is activated.
This can also be useful on short rails, such as a Mk18 sized carbine for folks who run their light for thumb activation on the tail cap. It moves the light forward so you can grab the end of the rail and still easily hit the tail cap. No need to move the hand backwards to the tail cap.
The only downside is that using the tail cap as a backup to the remote switch is less feasible with it so far forward. Still doable, though it requires re-gripping the rail rather than a small movement of the hand and thumb.
White lights are good for any rifle/ carbine that is meant for duty/ defensive use to the point that we can say they’re necessary. And being one of the easiest things to add to your rifle or carbine, there’s no real reason not to have one.
