One thing we especially appreciate with our volunteers is the opportunity to develop relationships. Our volunteers that faithfully show up to selflessly serve is such an incredible blessing to the ministry; being able to get to know them through the years is a beautiful gift!

"My name is Andrew Fisher, I’ve been volunteering at the Smyrna power camp as the camp nurse since we started hosting in Smyrna. My main job is a nurse in the ER at Nemours children’s hospital. I love my job but my favorite week of the year is volunteering at power camp! I love being a part of sharing the gospel through sport and competition. My kids also love coming as campers and getting more time to play their sport while learning about Jesus! You’ll spot me wheeling around the school making sure everyone has lots of water and passing out ice packs!"

🌟🏀 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT 🏀🌟

Cole Matthews has coached and served at FCA Smyrna Power Camp for the past nine years. He attends Lifehouse Smyrna Church. At 23, he is the oldest of seven children in his family. This past year Cole taught Algebra 1 at Smyrna High School while coaching basketball at Delaware Technical Community College. This upcoming year Cole has been blessed with the opportunity to join the coaching staff at Wilmington University for an assistant coach position for their men’s basketball team.

Cole's favorite bible verse is Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord”

"I am a proud social studies teacher at Smyrna High School where I am also fortunate to be our head girls tennis coach! I have been playing tennis since I was six years old and have been coaching for five seasons. My wonderful husband Chris and I have two incredible children, Meisha who is newly six years old and our nearly three year old son, CJ! They are the light of our lives. We also have two dogs - a Great Dane named Pepper and a labrador pit mix named Chazer. In my free time I enjoy reading, cooking, camping with my family and spending time outdoors. I am so excited to be back for another year of FCA power camp!"

🌟🏐🏀 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT 🏀🏐🌟

Drue and Heidi Matthews have been blessed with nearly 28 years of marriage and seven wonderful children—six sons and one daughter, ranging in age from 23 to 11. They are also thrilled to be entering a new season as grandparents, with their daughter Quinn and her husband, Tyler, expecting twins this coming January.

Athletics have always been a cornerstone of their lives. Drue played basketball at St. Mark's High School and went on to play at Wilmington College. Heidi was a three-sport athlete at Christiana High School—playing volleyball, basketball, and softball—before continuing her volleyball career at Wilmington College. It was there, as fellow student-athletes, that the two first
met.

Today, they continue to pour their love for sports and faith into the community. For the past six years, they have served together at the FCA Power Camp in Smyrna, where Drue serves in various roles and Heidi coaches volleyball. For them, it is a profound privilege to share their passion for athletics and their devotion to Jesus with the next generation.

Outside of camp, both are dedicated to local ministry and mentorship. After 16 years of homeschooling her children, Heidi now teaches Algebra 2 at Smyrna High School, where she loves shining the light of Christ for her students and colleagues. Drue, after spending 20 years in the insurance industry, has dedicated the last decade to full-time pastoral ministry, helping others discover the abundant life found in Christ.

Drue and Heidi are active members of LifeHouse Church in Smyrna, where they love using their unique gifts to encourage and strengthen their church community.

🏐 Heidi will return this month as our coed volleyball coach for Smyrna Power Camp, and Drue will help us in a supervisory role. Thank you both!

📖🌿 "By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples." (John 15:8, ESV)

🌱🩵 What are you trying to prove?
In the fast-paced world of sports, it’s easy to get caught up in the game; the noise, the pressure, the crowds, the stats, the wins and the losses. Every day, it feels like everyone needs something. This pace can lead to burnout, frustration and a desire to check out. But we don’t have to keep striving to prove our worth; God has proven everything for us through His Son Jesus Christ. We simply receive what has already been done for us. WE ARE PROVEN IN HIM. Let us seek to abide in HIM.

🌱🩵 We are currently enjoying the rhythm of camps this summer - while at times we are happily exhausted we also find ourselves with sustained and renewed energy to face each opportunity with open and humble hearts (only the Lord can do that! Let's go!). In these camps we encourage our youth to learn what it looks like to go from living for approval to living from the love of God. We're taking coaches and athletes on a journey to go from proving our worth to living PROVEN IN HIM.

🌟🥋🎉 COACH SPOTLIGHT 🎉🥋🌟

We are incredibly grateful for our brothers and sisters who serve with us!

Joey and Ashton Coleman, husband and wife team, are two of our coaches for Smyrna Power Camp this summer. Joey will coach coed jiu jitsu and Ashton will coach girls cheerleading (alongside her daughter, Keely!).

🥋 Joey, a black belt in jiu jitsu, is an instructor at Gracie Jiu Jitsu Smyrna and wrestling coach within Smyrna school district. He serves in Men’s Ministry at his local church, where he attends with his wife and three children.

🎉 Ashton, also seasoned in jiu jitsu as a blue belt, has coached youth cheerleading for over a decade. She serves at her local church through many avenues including Vacation Bible School planning and design.

🙌🏻 Please join us in thanking these two for their servant hearts — and praising the Lord for gifting each of them in ways that glorify Jesus and serve His people!
