I spent a training session with members of the Lubbock Christian School and Ropes ISD school guardians today. These individuals are committed to protecting the students of their respective schools. They did a great job despite the 100 degrees and me pushing them out of their comfort zone.

I have remained quiet about the tragedy in Uvalde. Mostly because I was waiting for the report to come out. With all the discussions about mental health, fences, cameras, locks, and law enforcement, all of which I think are important, when it comes right down to it, I still want trained teachers with a firearm to protect my grandkids in the classroom.

I have to wonder if the attacker would have still chosen to go into that school if there were signs out front like these, knowing he would meet resistance. When I hear a DPS trooper in a presentation say she wished all schools would have guardians it makes me wonder why they don’t. I also wonder why parents aren’t demanding it.

These trained faculty and staff at RISD and LCS are serious about protecting their students. I am proud and honored to be a part of their training.

"A lone man with a long gun killed three people before an armed bystander killed him in the Greenwood Park Mall."

"The real hero of the day is the citizen that was lawfully carrying a firearm in that food court and was able to stop the shooter almost as soon as he began," he said.

The gunman and three other people are dead after a shooting inside Greenwood Park Mall on Sunday evening. Two people are injured.

Continuing training is essential if you’re going to carry a handgun for self defense.

I spent a fast-paced, 800+ round, long-days, weekend at KR Training at Tom Givens’ Instructor Development Class.

Tom Givens is an internationally respected trainer and learning at his feet was a blessing. I’m looking forward to integrating his teachings into my classes.
