Smithtown Judo

Smithtown Judo The Smithtown Judo Club was founded in 1961 by Sensei John Brisbois teaching. Smithtown Judo is now lead by Sensei John Lucas, Joseph Prizzi and Jason Brodsky.

Our focus is teaching traditional Kodokan Judo. We have a kids program and adult program. In 1994 the club was turned over to Jean- Pierre Lucas. Sensei Lucas started under Sensei Brisbois in 1963, at 5 years old, and has been there ever since. Also at the club with Sensei Lucas is Sensei Joe Prizzi(4th Dan) who started in 1968, and Sensei Jason Brodsky (3rd Dan) who started in 1980. Our Philoso

The club's focus is still on traditional Kodokan Judo as a form of physical exercise; conditioning, self defense and competition Judo. Judo was developed by Jigoro Kano in the late 1800's in Japan as a way to practice and compete in the martial arts without getting hurt. We as a club adhere to his values and teachings. Judo today is practiced around the world and enjoyed by many and is an Olympic sport.
