May 18 HSC_07_Written in Heaven_Tamara Bauttager Part 1
Today’s devotional begins with an experience Tamara had with infertility. Following this, we move on to a discussion of using video and other multimodal projects to help children explain their learning. In Curriculum Corner, we then highlight the advantages of using a virtual high school to support your homeschooling high school students. Building on these themes, we begin our interview with Tamara, who explains how uncertainty and pain can make it tempting to doubt God’s presence. But what if we saw each day of our lives as part of a divine plan shaped before we were even formed?

May 19 HSC_07_Angels on Call_Tamara Bauttager Part 2
Our story today is about the miraculous birth of Tamara’s second daughter. During Arts-n-Crafts, we take movie-making to the next level. During Curriculum Corner, we unpack what a successful day in homeschooling looks like. Then we resume our interview with Tamar Bauttager and her book Written in Heaven, which showcases powerful stories of unwavering faith and triumph from Tamara Hester Battaglia and today’s leading female voices in Christian music, ministry, film, and literature.

May 20 HSC_08_God’s Heart_Gaylyn Williams Part 1
But I Didn’t Know is the title of today’s devotional. This story gives a glimpse into the life of June Hunt, a well-known psychologist and radio host. During Arts and Crafts, we look at an animating app called Puppet Pals. During Curriculum Corner, we go through all the modes included in the term multi-model. Our guest, Gaylyn Williams, is the executive director of Relationship Resources, an internationally recognized author of more than forty books, and a dynamic, inspirational, and motivational speaker. She is passionate about empowering people to transform their relationships with God and others.

May 21 HSC_08_God’s Heart for Israel_Gaylyn Williams Part 2
Betrayal is one of the hardest trials to go through; we are betrayed by our family members. We might be betrayed by our colleagues. Jesus was betrayed by one of his disciples. After our devotional and during Arts-n-Crafts, we explore the craft of Stop-motion. Next, we conclude our interview with Gaylyn Williams. She shares from personal experience, including: abandonment as a child, deaths of her six-month-old son and her fiancé, sixteen years as a single mom raising two rambunctious sons, and major betrayals.

May 22 HSC_0462_2430_Cooke Media Group_Phil Cooke Part 1
Tears are prayers from the heart when you cannot speak. During Arts-n-Crafts, we dry flowers and leaves. During Curriculum Corner, we explore the Universal Design for Learning (UDL). And the impact of neuroscience on learning. Phil Cooke, founder and producer of Cooke Media Group, will talk about how to get your message heard through communication strategies, video, web development and design, social media, book publishing, church media, broadcast television, and movies. After all, your goal is to inspire your followers and audience to act.

May 04 HSC_1219_Bible Faces_Dick Stenbakken Part 1
The Title of today’s devotion is Capturing Faith Memories. Then, during Arts-n-Crafts, we make a family album and paint a rainbow in watercolor over a scripture verse. Next, we debate online learning vs. textbook learning. Then we go to our interview with Dr. Dick Stenbakken. Dr. Stenbakken has presented first-person narratives all over the globe with clients as diverse as small rural churches to worldwide youth rallies. He believes that the first-person biblical narrative is a highly professional form of teaching, exploring scripture, and presenting eternal truths.

May 05 HSC_1220_Bible Faces_Dick Stenbakken Part 2
How does a family embrace their calling? What is a Calling? This topic is discussed during the first part of the show. During Arts-n-Crafts, we make a family collage, survey our children’s interests, and have a home fire drill/plan. Then we debate co-ops vs. microschool. At last, we complete our interview with Dr. Dick Stenbakken about his highly professional enactments of Biblical and Historical Characters. Dr. Stenbakken does deep research into the biblical materials, historical backgrounds, theological underpinnings, and human dynamics to discover, develop, and present each character.

May 06 HSC_1221_Dream Gazer_Wayne Jamel Part 1
What are all the ways a family can show compassion, first toward each other and then in their neighborhood and community? During Arts-n-Crafts, we learn first aid, make sympathy cards for shut-ins, and practice our listening skills. During Curriculum Corner, we debate homeschooling high school vs. traditional high school. Next, we segue to our interview with Pastor Wayne Jamel. He works as a Pastor in New York. But, before becoming a pastor, he wanted to be an animator. Inspired by Disney and the Looney Tunes, he wanted to make and voice his own cartoon shows.

May 07 HSC_1222_Dream Gazer_Wayne Jamel Part 2
Developing a family mission statement is a useful tool for helping the whole family embrace it. During Arts-n-Crafts, we work on a family mission statement, we make a task list, and an acrostic with our family’s last name. Then we discuss the philosophies of Charlotte Mason vs. Montessori. Next, we conclude our interview with Pastor Wayne Jamel. Together with his brother, they would draw comics, photocopy them, and pass them out in church. Wayne also made Christian comic strips for his high school and college newsletters. Now he desires to continue using visual storytelling to share God’s message.

May 08 HSC_HSC_0461_Listen Well, Lead Better_Steve & Becky Harling
The betrayal of Judas causes us to pause and examine our own motives and actions. During Arts-n-Crafts, we make sensory bottles. Even older kids love to make these. We talk about Carnegie Units in high school and what they mean for college-bound students. Then we go to our interview with Steve and Becky Harling, who believe that strong listeners enjoy greater credibility, navigate conflicts better, and foster more engaged teams. Above all, the lessons in the book, Listen Well, Lead Better, will help you hear from God more clearly and gain his wisdom on all matters in life.

“Am I doing enough?”
If you’ve asked yourself that during homeschooling… you’re not alone.
Most parents don’t struggle with teaching.
They struggle with:
❌ Knowing what to do each day
❌ Staying consistent
❌ Feeling like they’re failing their child
That’s exactly why we created Homeschool Companion.
It gives you structure, clarity, and confidence without the overwhelm.
💛 You don’t need to be perfect. You just need a plan.

Apr 27 HSC_1215_The Story We Tell Our Children_Matt Markins Part 1
One of the biggest defenses many animals have is the ability to play dead, or remain perfectly still. In today’s Arts-n-Crafts segment, we learn about quail. Moving on to Curriculum Corner, we explore how to integrate holidays into our homeschool curriculum. Finally, we begin our interview segment with Matt Markins about his book The Story We Tell Our Children. This book issues a timely call to children’s ministry leaders, pastors, and parents, revealing how the church can unintentionally slip into a “Bible Lite Strategy” that teaches good behavior and virtues without anchoring kids in the life-changing story of Jesus Christ.

Apr 28 HSC_1216_Forming Faith_Matt Markins Part 2
Today’s devotion focuses on snails. These slow-moving creatures have a lot to tell us about God, the creator. Next, during Arts-n-Crafts, we make some cute snails. Then, we continue our discussion on teaching through the holidays. For our interview segment, we discuss Matt Markins, President and CEO of AWANA, and his book Forming Faith. This message helps us understand what isn’t working, why it doesn’t work, and what we can do about it. Forming Faith not only provides analysis but also offers biblically based, research-backed solutions to foster lasting faith in our children.

Apr 29 HSC_1217_06_Benny DiChiara Part 1
The topic of today’s devotion is the sting, especially from bees and hornets. During Arts-n-Crafts, we make honey bee slime. At Curriculum Corner, we discuss the winter holidays and different educational experiences children can have. Then we begin our delightful interview with Benny DiChiara. Since his last interview with us, DiChiara and his band have launched the SALT EP. This project is based on Matthew 5:13, where Jesus says, “You are the salt of the earth.”

Apr 30 HSC_1218_06_Benny DiChiara Part 2
Our devotional today is about Mollusks. So, we have fun making a water bottle squid and a clay starfish. Then, we discuss Resurrection Sunday and Passover. And look at ways to help our children learn. Next, we conclude our interview with Benny DiChiara. DiChiara believes that it is important to engage with others, even when we don’t know them. Share the gospel, bring them hope, and let God give them a future.

May 01 HSC_0460_Listen Well, Lead Better_Steve & Becky Harling Part 1
The story of Elijah and Mt. Carmel reminds us that nothing is impossible with God. During Arts-n-Crafts, we make a suncatcher. The hope is that children will learn to let their light shine, the light that comes from God. This is a great transition to the forest classroom curriculum topic. Next, we begin our interview with Becky and Steve Harling about their book, Listen Well, Lead Better. Steve and Becky Harling share 10 practices that will help you be a more effective listener and leader. Learn how to ask better questions, make people feel heard and valued, and create an open and positive culture.
