The Smithfield-Selma High School Band Program has a long and rich history. Windley, fondly known as “Doc Windley,” led the band from its inception in 1969 until 1986. Calling all SSS Band Alumni! Here is a link to support our band program if you can! We are scheduled to leave for New York 2 weeks from Friday, and any support can help us get there! The SSS Band program has meant so much to so many, and I know your support would mean the world to our current members.
SSS is special, and the SSS kids are different. They know what it means to have to work for what they want. They know what it means to overcome obstacles, and to be stereotyped and criticized because of where they come from. They know what it means to be a team, and a family, and in the face of adversity they ALWAYS come together stronger than ever. It takes a special person to take kids who are so diverse and come from so many walks of life and unite them for a common goal.
Brian Jones has been that special person for this band program for the past 20 years. He has the biggest heart of anyone I have ever met in my life, and gives everything he has to these kids and to this program day in and day out. He is such a positive influence in all of our lives, and I strive every day to be more like him. Year after year he does the impossible and makes it look easy. I see what goes into it though, and it is NOT easy; I could not have more respect for him and everything he is able to accomplish. I love this band family and what it means and everything it stands for and represents. I don’t know where I would be if it weren’t for Brian Jones and this band program, and I am so thankful every day for the continued opportunity to be a part of it.
Any and all support is greatly appreciated to help our program continue to provide life changing opportunities for these talented and hard working students! Thank you for sharing and helping us to reach our goal!

Percussion Theater is just around the corner! Mark your calendars for May 14th-16th. All shows will be held in SSS McLean Auditorium. On Thursday, the show will be at 3:15 pm. On Friday, the Smithfield Middle School Jazz Band will open the show that starts at 7 pm. Admission for Thursday and Friday is $5 at the door.
This year, we are offering "The Best of Percussion Theater" on Saturday evening. This extended, hour and a half long show will feature the best acts and videos from the last 7 years of percussion theater!! Tickets are available in limited quantity for presale only!! Tickets are $15 and include a spaghetti dinner at 5:30 pm prior to the "Best Of" show at 6:30 pm. You don't want to miss out on this awesome opportunity! Tickets are available in the band office at SSS. We expect a sold out show, so get your tickets now!!
Percussion Theater VI is coming soon! Performances are on Thursday, May 15th at 3:15 pm, Friday, May 16th at 7 pm, and Saturday, May 17th time TBA. All shows are held in McLean Auditorium at SSS. This is an awesome event every year. Help us spread the word to your friends. Everyone is welcome, and we would love to have a packed house for all three performances. Come out and support these hard working students--we guarantee you will enjoy the show!!
The Johnston County Expo will be held at SSS this Tuesday, September 17th. Gates open at 6:00 pm and the first band performs at 6:45 pm. Admission is free. Please support our band program by purchasing food from the concession stand. The Spartan Regiment will take the field last in performance at 8:15 pm. Please come out and enjoy all of the area high school bands and support our awesome program!!
