Four Oaks Middle School has launched its first Technology Student Association (TSA) chapter! 🎉

This exciting new opportunity allows students to explore technology, engineering, design, and leadership through hands-on projects, teamwork, and competitions. Students will build creativity, problem-solving, communication, and career-ready skills while connecting classroom learning to real-world applications.

We’re excited to see where this new chapter takes our students!

Riverwood Middle welcomed the Be Pro Be Proud truck on September 10–11 for an exciting experience with our 8th-grade students!

Students had the opportunity to explore a variety of career pathways, learn more about skilled trades, and gain hands-on experience through the mobile learning experience. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to discover career options beyond the traditional four-year college path and see the many possibilities available to them after graduation.

We’re excited to share a glimpse of this engaging and inspiring experience with our Riverwood Middle community!

West Johnston High School was excited to welcome Darian Stamper from Motorola Solutions to speak with our students about the exciting fields of Cybersecurity and Computer Science!

West Johnston High School welcomed Brilyn Parker from the Health Department to speak with our Food & Nutrition 2 students about inspections, food safety, and the important role health regulations play in the food industry.

Our students enjoyed the opportunity to learn from a professional in the field and ask questions about inspections and safety practices. Thank you, Brilyn, for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to engage with our students today!

The partnership between the Johnston County Economic Development office and Johnston County Public Schools, especially the incredible JCPS Career & Technical Education team, continues to be one of the most meaningful investments we can make in our future workforce. When we expose students to skilled trades early, we’re not just opening doors to high‑demand careers; we’re giving them pathways that don’t burden them with years of college debt. It’s inspiring to see our educators and industry partners working side by side to show young people that opportunity comes in many forms, and that the trades remain a powerful, respected, and rewarding option right here in Johnston County.

A Corinth Holders High School student and teacher have received statewide recognition for their involvement in a new financial literacy program launched by the N.C. Department of State Treasurer.

Junior Ben Kozloff and Career and Technical Education teacher John Allen participated in the department’s Cash Club initiative, with Corinth Holders becoming one of the first high schools in North Carolina to host a recruitment event for the program.

Cash Club is designed to teach students practical financial skills, including budgeting, saving, credit, investing, scholarships and everyday financial decision-making.

The initiative builds on the State Treasurer’s Finance Fridays resources and provides participating schools with lesson plans, activities, discussion questions, quizzes and information about scholarship opportunities.

Schools can also use the program to connect students with guest speakers and other financial education resources.

Kozloff’s involvement extended beyond the school program. He was selected for an internship with the State Treasurer’s office and was featured in the department’s monthly newsletter.

Corinth Holders Principal Melissa Hurst said the work by Kozloff and Allen has helped expand financial education opportunities for students.

“We are proud of Mr. Allen and Ben for the way they have represented Corinth Holders High through their leadership and participation in the Cash Club initiative,” Hurst said.

She said the program gives students practical experience that can help prepare them for college, careers and life after high school.

Food & Nutrition 1 is an exciting Career and Technical Education (CTE) course where students learn valuable cooking and life skills. Students gain hands-on experience preparing meals, snacks, and desserts while learning essential kitchen techniques.

The course also explores nutrition, healthy food choices, meal planning, grocery shopping, and budgeting. Students learn how to work as a team, solve problems, and become more confident in the kitchen. Food & Nutrition also introduces students to careers in culinary arts, restaurants, hospitality, nutrition, food science, and entrepreneurship. Whether you love cooking or are just getting started, this course helps students learn, create, and prepare for the future.
