PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Braxton Bryant – Smackover
Don’t sleep on Smackover. And don’t sleep on Braxton Bryant.
The senior is heading into his final season stronger and faster than he’s ever been, and he’s ready to make some noise in 3A.
Last year, Bryant was behind Jamari Robinson on the depth chart. Didn’t matter. He still racked up 400+ all-purpose yards and 7 touchdowns — second most on the team. That’s production with limited touches.
He did have a tough playoff game against Mayflower, but he was battling the flu. When healthy, he showed out. Big games against Prescott, Fouke, and even non-conference Junction City. The kid can play.
People aren’t talking about Smackover much after what they lost to graduation. But this team is hungry. And they’ve got pieces.
QB Tracen Parlor made All-Conference last year while only starting 4 games when Mitchell went down. Now he’s got a full offseason as QB1. Pair him with a healthy, explosive Bryant, and the Buckaroos have a real 1-2 punch.
Smackover might be flying under the radar — but not for long. Braxton Bryant is about to remind 3A what the Buckaroos can do.
If you like tough, versatile backs who can hurt you in a lot of ways, get your eyes on Smackover this fall.
This whole team has something to prove. And Bryant’s leading the charge.
