I'm not a hiring manager. I'm not a recruiter.
I'll do some video stuff about this at some point.

Lots of folks I talk to get frustrated when they get passed on for RST/EP jobs and then I see their resume.

More often than not, applicants will write a generic security guard resume with allllll the "patrol" stuff they've done even if it has absolutely nothing to do with the jobs.

The other side of the issue is applicants relying waaayy too much on AI to right the resume and then blindly sending it in. It's got to a point where even I can see an AI resume within seconds.

Basic foundation; 1 page cover letter/summary, 1 page work history. The end. Don't be afraid to have it all on one page if you've only been doing security for less than 5 years.

Step 1: Find an RST or EP job you want to apply for.

Step 2: Find a nice Google doc resume template you want to use.

Step 3: Use AI to write out your resume bullets or paragraph summary. Make sure it's accurate to what you actually did. No one cares if you have an AI "assisted" resume because you'll show your true self in the interview.

Step 4: Have AI "rewrite your job history to match with this job" and paste the job from Step 1 into the AI.
Once this happens, proof read to truthfullness and adjust as needed.
Again, you aren't lying. You just need help with verbiage.
When I first started EP, I didn't have any experience doing advances so I made sure to take that out if AI wrote it in. Now that I have experience, I leave it in.

Step 5: Copy that into the second page of the resume format from Step 2.

Step 6: Have AI summarize your work history with an emphasis on key duties related to RST (or EP.) This is your page 1. Also include education and JOB RELEVANT TRAINING.

I've been doing this for the last year and have been wildly successful.

Does it happen all the time? Sure does.
Is it illegal? Sure is.

What do I do? Lock my fi***rm in my car which is parked on client property.

Every airport pick up and drop off I've ever done has been on the tarmac because all my clients took private charter flights.

Even when I get a last minute "Hey, I need a ride to the airport" I secure my fi***rm before departing.

I also keep a lock box in the company vehicle in case I have to follow on foot where fi***rms aren't allowed which is often.

I'm not a hiring offical of any sort but it doesn't take a hiring offical to visit company websites and let you know what's out there 🫡

LinkedIn is probably the best place for most the EP/RST jobs but you can also have ChatGBT search for Executive Protection and Residential Security jobs within X miles of X location.

Almost all of the good paying jobs are in the Bay Area.

Some shooters still confuse “qualification” with “training.”
A qualification course of fire is a test.
Plain and simple.
Tests are pass or fail.

Whether we believe a minimum passing score proves someone is proficient at the task remains subjective.

Every armed guard in California is legally held to a minimum qualification standard.
Meet that standard, and they can continue working armed.
Professionalism means going out of your way to hold yourself to a higher standard.

However, with no state mandate or direct financial incentive and starting wages around $23–25 an hour, why expect someone earning the same hourly wage as a Staples employee to spend their own money on improving fi***rms proficiency through regular practice and continued professional training?

There's a misconception often mixed with a general lack of caring and laziness with where an armed uniformed guard can go while on duty. Keep in mind, we aren't accounting for those with CCW's. This is purely based off someone operating under an exposed permit.

You can't simply go wherever you want because you're on the clock despite a previous conversation I had with a licensed BSIS fi***rms instructor who was also a QM for a PPO who insisted "guards can go anywhere once they're 10-8." California and BSIS disagree.

Simply stated, if the specific business isn't paying you to be there, you generally can't be there.

What you CAN do is leave your house in full duty uniform and equipment, lock, load and holster your pistol and drive to work or the range if shooting a BSIS qual.
What you can't do is swing by a fast food place and pick up lunch WHILE ARMED.
You can store it lawfully in the car, grab lunch, and go.

Now that there's food delivery options, this isn't as big of an issue but I still encounter new and experienced guards who still don't fully understand the limits of what their permit allows.

The average armed guard will shoot stage one in about 10-15 seconds but only score 2-3 hits.

One of the keys to ANY timed qualification table is understanding how many seconds you get per shot after factoring in for your holster draw and sight picture (2-3 seconds seems like a decent average for this.)

The other, more controversial, advice I give is use Kentucky Windage. If your shots are consistently low right, aim high left.
Does this address the marksmanship issue?
No. But the time to do that isnt during a qualification table. This also really only applies at 10 yards and further.

Everything else is just time management.
