Slippery Rock University Department of Counseling and Development

The Department of Counseling and Development (CDEV) offers both the Master of Arts and the Master of Education degrees. The Master of Arts in Community Counseling is a 60 credit-hour program and leads to eligibility for Pennsylvania licensure as a Professional Counselor (LPC). Graduates are qualified for employment in a variety of settings including hospitals, residential treatment facilities, and

community mental health agencies. The Master of Education degree in School Counseling is a 54 credit-hour program. Upon completion, students will be eligible for certification as an Elementary or Secondary School Counselor or both. The Master of Arts in Student Affairs in Higher Education is a 48 credit-hour program, designed to prepare students in leadership positions in the student affairs division of a college or university. The Master of Arts in Student Affairs in Higher Education with College Counseling is a 60 credit-hour program, specifically designed for students that wish to prepare for counseling-related professional work in student affairs (e.g., personal and/or career counseling) at colleges and universities. Graduates of the Student Affairs in Higher Education with College Counseling program will be license eligible as a Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania. All of the programs in the Department of Counseling and Development are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
