Pennsic Dance This is the place to learn more about European Dance at Pennsic. Check back regularly for schedule updates, pictures, and other information.

The Pennsic War is an annual event in Slippery Rock, PA hosted by the Society for Creative Anachronism. Among the wide variety of activities available at the war is European Dance. Over the course of the war there will be dozens of classes covering dance styles from Italy to England, from the early 15th century through the 16th century and beyond. Nearly every evening will provide dance revels and

parties late into the night. Come join us for the festivities!

Greetings from Magistra Sonya Flicker aka Patches,

I want to shout out to all the people who helped make European Dancing so great at Pennsic this year.

A huge thank you to Lady Ariana de Gallo (Melanie Treeson) who was the deputy Dean of Dance. She stepped up and did all sorts of little jobs during Pennsic. She and I did scheduling. She offered advice. Thank you so much.

Lady Mirabella Wamsley ( Gretsinger) coordinated all the balls, and despite not being deputy dean this year, was still my right hand helper.

THL Jolicia atte Northclyfe ( Washington) facilitated connecting musicians and dance instructors.

Lord Richard de Troyes (not on FB) and Lord Robert of Guildford ( Thompson) for taking care of the dance tent every day. Making sure there was water in the water coolers and closing up the tent at night.

THL Siri Toivosdotter (Jo-Ann Sheffer) for all her support: bringing extra copies of the Pennsic Pile, music stands and lights for the musicians, extra sets of shelves, and mugs for those that forgot theirs. She also coordinated all the band leaders for the evening dancing.

Thank you to Duchess Thyra Eiriksdottir (Karen H Veale) for leading the floor construction and deconstruction.

Thank you to all the teachers and musicians who played for dancing!

Thank you to the deputy mayor of cultural affairs (Amy Jefferis) for trusting me with the European Dance community.

The first ball of Pennsic was last night’s Early Bird Ball. This ball had lots of fun dances that were designed to help you meet new people.

Tonight (Saturday, Aug 1) is the Contessa’s Red and Gold Ball. This ball is always a crowd pleaser with a mix of beginner friendly as well as more challenging dances.

Of course, there is dancing throughout the day with a lunch and learn class: Dancers and Musicians Round Table

For Friday (July 31), we have our first ball-the Early Bird Ball starting at 9.
