SRU Marching Pride

Directions

SRU Marching Pride The SRU Marching Pride is the largest and most visable student organizations at Slippery Rock University. Annual membership ranges from 140 to 200 members.

The band is comprised of musicians, drum majors, color guard (flag/rifle team), Rocklettes (dance team) and student managers. The Marching Pride represents students from across campus regardless of major – music majors, education majors, physical therapy, psychology, you name it! Instrumentalists do not have to audition to join the Marching Pride. Auditions may be held during band camp to assign parts, but nobody is cut from participating as a musician. The drum line is auditioned during the first day of drum camp. However, our auxiliary groups, the Rocklettes and color guard, must audition and be selected as a member of the squad. Audition times for auxiliary groups will be announced.

🎺 24 years ago, a piece of SRU Marching Pride history was made.

In October 2002, SRU honored longtime band director and professor emeritus Blase S. Scarnati by naming the band rehearsal field the Blase S. Scarnati Marching Band Field.

Mr. Scarnati joined Slippery Rock (State College) in 1964 and spent decades shaping the university’s music community, including leading the Marching Rockets for 25 years.

If you ever see the present day SRU Marching Pride marching to a football game, the cadence begins at this sign, marking the moments when we are stepping into performance mode - carrying on the tradition, and legacy.

The name on the field reminds us that we are not just carrying on a tradition — we are a part of its history.

Here’s to Mr. Scarnati, and to the generations musicians who have called this field home. 💚🎺
