Southern Youth Ballet Southern Youth Ballet, Classical Ballet Academy, is dedicated to promoting youth in the arts. We believe in the importance of dance and all it has to offer.

At Southern Youth Ballet, we believe that the classical disciplines are essential to the artistic development of children. Classical Ballet offers a wealth of opportunity. From learning an art form filled with technique, musicality, and artistry to discovering self-discipline, self-responsibility, and accomplishment. Ballet requires dedication which will give much back in return. If you let it, Ballet will take you on an incredible journey.

Attention Adult Dancers - October has arrived, and with it, a little more room for imagination! 🎃🩰

One of the best things about ballet is the gateway it gives us to stories and worlds beyond our own. And as we head into spooky season, we’re going to spend the month sharing a few of our favorite ballets that remind us just how beautifully dance can bring a story to life.

We may have aged out of trick-or-treating, but we’ll never age out of daydreaming. Of grand balls and enchanted forests. Of fairies, dreams, and impossible things. Or, in the case of Le Spectre de la Rose, of coming home from a ball and dreaming that the rose you carried home leaps through your window and asks you to dance. 🌹

Maybe that’s part of what makes adult ballet so special. Somewhere along the way, adulthood asks us to become very practical. Ballet gives us a little piece of that imagination back.

So come play this week. Come dance. Come be a little less practical for an hour.

Your spot at the barre is waiting. ❤️🩰

Progress doesn't happen over night. It's hundreds and thousands of small changes over time and many, many classes. It's consistency, focus, and determination. 💓

When you look in the mirror, what do you see?

✨ ...someone who waited too late to start ballet, or someone who had the courage to start?

✨ ...a beginner who doesn't know what she's doing, or someone brave enough to be bad at something new?

✨ ...every correction your teacher gave you, or a teacher who believes you're capable of more?

✨ ...the mistakes you made today, or the things you can do now that you couldn't do six months ago?

✨ ...what your body can't do yet, or everything you're teaching it to do?

✨ ...how far you still have to go, or how far you've already come?

We spend a lot of time looking in the mirror in ballet. It's a wonderful tool. It helps us make corrections, understand our lines, and connect what a movement feels like with what it looks like.

But that's all it is: a tool. And sometimes, when we're so focused on what needs correcting, we forget to see all the good staring back at us.

Bravery. Progress. Strength. Resilience. A dancer.

So this week, look again. Have courage. Be kind. Give yourself grace. ❤️

Adult ballet is 10% technique, 90% convincing yourself to leave the house.

Some weeks you grand jeté into class. Some weeks you arrive like this. Both count. The 'pointe' is that you show up. 🩰

Will it be physically and mentally challenging? Absolutely. Arms. Feet. Head. Music. Counting. Technique. Style. All at once, while somehow trying to look graceful.

But funny how focusing on so many little things helps you let go of so many bigger ones. The stressful day at work. The to-do list. The frustration. The doubt. For an hour, there simply isn’t room for all of it. You’re too busy being here.

That’s the transformative magic of ballet.

So when the “will I, won’t I?” starts after a long day, remember how you feel after class.

You’ve got 3 chances to choose yourself this week. And if you need a little accountability, consider this your nudge. We’re looking forward to seeing you, and your spot at the barre is waiting. ❤️

Hopefully everyone kept up with their technique while yachting this summer. 🍁 As we dive back into the fall session, remember that every movement is a chance to redefine your limits, every plié an opportunity to build resilience, and every class a testament to your capacity for growth. Join us next week and let's elevate our practice together!
