College fit isn't just about what happens in the classroom.
Think about the whole day.

👉️ A noisy dorm.
👉️ A long walk to class.
👉️ Limited places to study.
👉️ A routine that's harder to maintain than expected.

Each one might seem manageable on its own. But when small challenges pile up, they can make college life much harder for a student who already struggles with organization, focus, or routines.

That's why I encourage families to look at the day-to-day reality, not just the major, rankings, or campus photos.

The right college should work for your student, not just look good on paper.

👉️ Book a Consult to start thinking about college fit from your student's perspective.

Every college will tell you what they do well.

But what do students say when something isn't working?

Ask about:
• The biggest frustrations
• What students wish they knew sooner
• What they would change

Those answers can tell you a lot about college fit.

Rankings tell you one thing.

They don't tell you what everyday life will feel like for your student.

I look at:
• Academic support
• Campus culture
• Student life
• The overall environment

Because the right environment can make a meaningful difference in college success.

Your friend's child got into their dream school.

That doesn't mean your student needs the same path.

College planning should consider their strengths, goals, needs, and learning style, not someone else's GPA or acceptance letter.

There isn't one definition of college success.

Starting a new semester in college can feel like a fresh start.

But if you have accommodations, don't wait until you're struggling to use them.

A few simple steps can make a difference:

• Reach out to your professors early.
• Know what accommodations you have.
• Be ready to explain what helps you learn.
• Keep communicating throughout the semester.
• Remind professors about testing accommodations before exams.
You don't have to wait for a problem before asking for support.

Early communication can help you build a stronger relationship with your professors and feel more confident advocating for yourself.

Good grades can open the door.

They don't guarantee that a student can manage what's behind it.

College requires students to plan, prioritize, start tasks, manage deadlines, and recover when things don't go as planned.

Those executive function skills matter.

“They get good grades, so they're ready… right?”

Not necessarily.

A student can understand the material and still struggle with:

• Starting assignments
• Planning ahead
• Managing deadlines
• Staying organized.

College puts much more responsibility on the student.

So when we're talking about college readiness, grades are only part of the picture.

A major matters.

But it isn't the whole college experience.

I want parents to look at:
• Academic support
• Campus culture
• Daily student life
• How their student will actually function there

Because a great major in the wrong environment can still be a poor fit.

Your student's diagnosis is part of their story.

It shouldn't be the starting point for their college list.

• Start with what they do well.
• What interests them.
• How they learn best.
• Where they feel confident.

Then find colleges that fit the whole student.

Good grades matter.

But college asks students to do much more than succeed in a classroom.

They need to:
• Speak up for themselves.
• Handle uncomfortable conversations.
• Work through conflict.
• Ask for help when they need it.

These aren't skills students should be expected to suddenly have when they leave for college.

Freshman year of high school is a great time to start practicing them.

There's time to make mistakes, build confidence, and gradually take on more responsibility, long before college applications or move-in day.
