We are writing to share an important safety update following today's precautionary soft lockdown in response to a social media threat on TikTok.

Investigation Update & Suspect Identification: The Sleepy Eye Police Department conducted a swift and thorough investigation today and has successfully identified a suspect responsible for the terroristic threat.

Return to Normal Operations: After direct consultation with local law enforcement, both Sleepy Eye Public Schools and St. Mary’s Catholic School will return to normal operations tomorrow.

Lockdown Lifted: The soft lockdown status is completely lifted.

Schedules & Activities: All classes, entry procedures, transportation, and extracurricular activities will run on their standard schedules tomorrow.

We want to extend our sincere gratitude to the Sleepy Eye Police Department for their rapid response and to our dedicated staff, students, and families for your patience, cooperation, and support throughout the day. The safety of our school community remains our top priority.

Out of an abundance of caution, Sleepy Eye Public Schools and St. Mary's Catholic School are entering a Soft Lockdown for the remainder of the day today.

Key Information:

Reason: The Sleepy Eye Police Department notified administration from both school systems of an online TikTok post referencing a threat toward Sleepy Eye students.

Threat Assessment: Police Chief Andres has determined this is a non-credible threat, but we are implementing these safety measures as an extra precaution.

Police Presence: An increased police presence will remain in and around school grounds for the rest of the day.

Campus Status: No visitors will be allowed on campus at either school today.

Evening Activities: All evening school activities, events, and practices for both schools are canceled today.

Student Safety: All students are safe inside their classrooms, and learning activities are continuing indoors under heightened security.

We will share additional updates as necessary. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in keeping our entire school community safe.

Our beloved Sr. Audrey Goldschmidt passed away on August 24, 2026.

A graduate of St. Mary's High School in 1955, Sr. Audrey returned home in 1985 to begin teaching first grade, and a few years later, second grade. She later transitioned to serving as a teacher's aide — and, ever generous with her time and talents, she also helped keep our school clean, a task she took on with quiet joy. After 31 years of faithful service, Sr. Audrey retired to the Sisters of St. Francis Motherhouse in Rochester, where she lived out the rest of her days.

Generations of our students were blessed to learn from Sr. Audrey — not just their letters and numbers, but kindness, faith, and what it means to serve others with a joyful heart.

We hold her family, her Franciscan Sisters, and all who knew and loved her in our prayers. May she rest in peace.
