Shoot your photos NOW for the Emily Oaks Nature Photography Contest in September! Photos must be taken at the Nature Center by amateur photographers and can be entered in three categories: Wildlife, Scenery, and People in Nature. Ribbons and prizes are awarded for each category!

📸 Deadline: 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 6
📌 Entry fees: $6 for the first photo / $4 for each additional entry.

Looking for a camping trip for your scouts this fall? Look no further than Emily Oaks Nature Center!

To make a Fall 2026 campout reservation, call Emily Oaks at (847) 677-7001, beginning Wednesday, August 12 at 12:00 noon.

Campouts will be reserved by phone in the order in which they are received by our staff. Mark your calendars—these spaces fill up fast!

Art Reception - Dual Visions of the Wild

Join us for an inspiring art opening reception featuring the Dual Visions of the Wild exhibit of husband and wife team, Anne Simone Kessler and Jay Carnes.

Anne Simone Kessler is an artist from Rogers Park where Lake Michigan, prairies, architecture, birds, deer, seasons, trees, and casual gardens are inescapably paint-worthy.

Jay Carnes is a Chicago‑based photographer whose work centers on the presence and character of birds within both urban environments and natural landscapes.

The show is on exhibit in the Woodland Wander Inn on the first floor of Emily Oaks Nature Center during regular business hours, through the end of August.

NATURE–BASED EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM!
Spaces are still open in our Growing Sprouts program at Emily Oaks Nature Center! This early learning program combines traditional preschool activities with outdoor discovery and exploration. A majority of your child’s day will be spent naturally learning through outdoor play. Children will learn about plants, animals and habitats; observe the changing seasons; use tools to conduct simple science experiments; and play freely in nature.
