During my tour of Texas in early 2020, I was humbled by the warm reception I received at . With ~10k undergraduates, it's small enough to have a strong community feel, but large enough to have all of the big school perks. Perfect place for students interested in balance, school spirit, and high academic achievement wrapped up in a welcoming, close-knit "college bubble". TCU embraces the teacher-Scholar model, and undergraduate education is the focus. Professors and academic advisors are true mentors to their students. Also worth noting: while TCU was founded by the Disciples of Christ and there are many Christian students and Christian organizations on campus, over 60 different religions and religious denominations are represented by TCU students! Unlike other faith-centered universities, there is no mandatory chapel or Christian religion courses in the curriculum. Your faith is your faith, and TCU respects that, no matter what you believe.

I was fascinated by long before I had a chance to visit Salem last June. Situated across the street (a mere 76 feet) from the State Capitol building, this liberal arts college is an excellent choice for students interested in politics. In fact, 80% of interns at the Oregon legislature are Willamette students! Willamette is best known for its Hearth System which features welcoming and nurturing gathering spaces for student and faculty collaboration. Also great for pre-health, as it's also across the street from the Salem Health hospital, where students have shadowing and volunteer opportunities pretty much right on campus.

During my visit to Alabama back in 2019, I toured , a member of the (Colleges That Change Lives) consortium. BSC is great for students who take academics seriously, want to be involved on campus, and are deeply interested in a broad liberal arts education. Interested in a liberal arts college with a business program? BSC has you covered! It's also a great option for students pursuing pre-med: close relationships with faculty and the Health Professions Advising program combine to make it easier to earn a strong committee letter for med school. Theyŗe also proud of the fact that courses are guaranteed - if even one student wants to take a course, it will be offered!

Located on top of "the Hill" in Medford, MA, just north of Boston, is a strong undergraduate-focused research university. In recent years, several of my students have expressed interest in Tufts because students can blend an education in the School of the Museum of Fine Arts with more traditional disciplines in the Arts and Sciences. Research is another distinguishing factor of the Tufts experience, with ~60% of students collaborating with faculty on projects across all areas of study.

Judging by the resolution in these photos (ca.2015), it might be time to make my way back to Boston and revisit this beautiful college campus!

It appears the pandemic put our social media posts on ice! Since the last post in November 2019, we've visited dozens of campuses, and it's about time we caught up!

Here's a throwback to visiting in December 2019 - If you seek a top-notch STEM education mixed with southern charm - Clemson might be the right college for you. Particularly interesting is the UPIC Co-Op program, where students learn & work with faculty to help prepare them for their future careers. One of my favorite visits to date!

In June 2021, I toured several colleges in the state of Oregon - among them was , a park-like oasis inside the city limits of Portland. Wonderful school with strong student-faculty mentorship. L&C is also a leader in study abroad and providing research opportunities to undergraduate students across all disciplines. Definitely worth a look if you seek a liberal arts college experience in the Pacific Northwest!

On the road again! On Friday I visited - situated in the Research Triangle and only one mile from downtown Raleigh, this land-grant university is very STEM / business focused and boasts one of the best textiles programs in the country. NCState also has a popular cooperative education program, where students alternate periods of work and study and complete their degree with actual industry experience (and lots of job offers!). Preprofessional advising for pre-med and pre-vet students is strong as well. I was also impressed by the entrepreneurship and innovation opportunities available for business students. Thank you, Wolfpack, for a fantastic morning!

One of my last Pre-COVID visits was to in late February, 2020. How many other colleges can say they have an airport (with a fleet of their own planes) in the middle of campus?? Adjacent to the Daytona Speedway, this college is chock full of STEM students ready to get a focused, hands-on, technical education. Almost everyone is doing some sort of research, and all classes are taught by professors, many of which live on campus in the residential villages. Our tour guide was studying to become a pilot for UPS or FEDEX - how cool is that!?!?! If the weather is good when you visit, you might even be offered a chance to go up on a flight! 🛩.

At Loyola Chicago, 'Cura personalis' (care for the development of the whole person) runs strong through the liberal arts core curriculum, and social justice programs like Loyola for Chicago provide tons of opportunities to serve in the surrounding community. Students looking to get more out of their college education are well served: hands-on fieldwork learning experiences make many classes feel like internships, and this learning model facilitates developing positive relationships with faculty. Until next time!
