Cicadas galore!

Following the curiosity of the yeladim around cicadas, Alonim Aleph dove deep into their life cycle! From egg, to nymph, to adulthood.

After studying pictures and identifying details, the yeladim used play dough and loose parts to create their very own cicadas! They carefully added details to their creations, many adding 6 legs, 2 antennae, and 2 pairs of wings.

The yeladim are looking forward to spotting cicadas on their walks in the upcoming days!

An important part of our work in Jewish Early Childhood Education is experiencing spirituality through connecting with nature and caring for our Earth.

The ECC garden gives the yeladim the opportunity to connect with nature through tending to fruits and vegetables that they plant, harvest, and eat! The gardening experience fosters a sense of responsibility for the natural world around them.

Nature play not only helps children develop their gross and fine motor skills, but also their understanding of Tikkun Olam.

Connecting to Pesach…

The yeladim have had a fun week of special Pesach activities with parent volunteers. From decorating Kiddush cups and matzah covers, to searching for chametz and baking matzah!

Such joy is felt as the yeladim listen to and sing Dayenu and Ma Nishtana!

These special activities foster a lifelong connection to Judaism and Pesach.

Pesach prep continues!

The yeladim retell and create their own stories by adding details, assigning feelings, and using gestures and facial expressions in telling.

When the yeladim act out stories, they draw on knowledge and emotion to embody characters and actions.

Using loose parts gives them the space to create their own interpretation of the Pesach story. By looking at the sedar plate, the yeladim think deeply about how all of these items would help us remember when we became free.

A little rain isn’t going to dampen our shine!

The yeladim were all smiles outside, eager to jump in puddles, create mud masterpieces, and slide extra fast. The rain added a whole new dimension to our outdoor adventures!

Through these authentic experiences, the yeladim connect with nature, enhancing their strength, agility, and concentration. It's amazing how wet sand can transform into the perfect ingredient for mud pies and cakes!

Exploring Pesach through our senses…

We know that young children learn through sensory experiences and we are immersed in them as we prepare for Pesach!

The yeladim use their senses to interpret and connect to the world around them. Through touch, they are experiencing the different aspects of Pesach.

While playing with frogs in play dough, the yeladim recalled a song they learned last year! “Frogs here, frogs there, frogs were jumping everywhere!”

These explorations nurture the development and understanding of a lifelong connection to Judaism and the holiday.

Throughout the week, we embarked on an engaging exploration of Purim! We learned about the story of Esther's heroism along with the traditions of Purim and the enduring lessons they hold. Through interactive storytelling and hands-on experiences, we gained a deeper understanding of the importance of Purim, fostering a sense of community. The yeladim engaged in deep inquiry as we thought of ways that we can be brave, strong, and help others.

A huge thank you to the PO, for coming in each day with a new and exciting adventure! From delving into the story of Esther to baking hamantaschen, exchanging Mishloach Manot, and crafting graggers, each activity offered unique and festive opportunities for the yeladim.

Exploring the Tiny World of Ants:

Following the inquiry and wonderings of the yeladim in Alonim Aleph around ants, the kita is embarking on an exciting journey of discovery! They honed their observation skills by creating beautiful drawings of ants, inspired by colorful pictures in carefully selected books. They explored hands-on by crafting imaginative habitats for our tiny ant friends using loose parts, and they had a blast digging into kinetic sand to uncover ants and other intriguing bugs!

But our adventure doesn't stop there! Our curious yeladim will take their learning to the next level as they begin crafting their very own KWL charts about ants. KWL stands for "What we Know, What we Want to know, and What we have Learned". This engaging project approach encourages our little learners to activate their prior knowledge, ignite their curiosity by pondering unanswered questions, and reflect on the exciting new information they acquire.

Exploring the World of Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers!

This week in Alonim Aleph, we've been diving into the magical world of art with the renowned artist Vincent Van Gogh exploring one of his most famous works, "Sunflowers." While doing so, we uncovered some fascinating details about his creative process.

We embarked on our own artistic journey inspired by Van Gogh's masterpiece. Before putting brush to canvas, we took a closer look at the colors and shapes in his work, learning how every stroke tells a story. As our little artists began painting, they let their imaginations soar! Some added delicate details like vases and tables, while others experimented with bold colors and textures. And you know what? Each painting was as unique as the artist behind it!

Together, we celebrated the creativity and individuality of our yeladim, just like Van Gogh celebrated his own unique style. We learned that in the colorful world of art, there's no right or wrong – only endless possibilities waiting to be explored!

We were delighted to welcome our families last Friday for our Family Friday event! It was a joyful morning as parents and special guests explored classroom centers, actively participated in Aseifat Kita, celebrated shabbat, and even shaped beautiful challot together. Witnessing the excitement of the children as they shared their classroom experiences with their parents was truly heartwarming.

At the heart of our educational philosophy is the belief in fostering a strong connection between home and school, and events like Family Friday exemplify this commitment. By inviting families into our classrooms, we not only enhance the educational journey of our students but also cultivate a sense of community within our school. Parents gain invaluable insights into the daily endeavors of their children, fostering a deeper appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

We look forward to many more moments of shared discovery and collaboration as we continue to strengthen the bonds between our school, our families, and our students.

The Journey of Self-Portraits

The yeladim in Alonim Aleph created their third self-portraits of the year, and the progress is truly inspiring! With mindful strokes, gazing into mirrors for inspiration, they added intricate details like flowing hair and delicate eyelashes to their masterpieces.

A child's self-portrait is a window into their evolving sense of self. Recreating self-portraits throughout the year unveils not just fine motor development, but also showcases their growing observational and focusing skills and acts as a canvas for developing creative, reflective, and expressive skills.

The most remarkable aspect lies in the evolving expression of their sense of self over time.

The yeladim in Alim are abuzz with the delightful exploration of seeds watching their very own lima beans sprout and grow!

From the first stage of planting the seeds, to caring for and watering them, the yealdim are full of curiosity and wonder as they eagerly examine the changes in their sprouts and learn new vocabulary to describe their evolving plants.

Building on the knowledge they already have, the yeladim are inquiring about their new observations: “Why are some of the shoots purple?” “What happened to the seed?” “Why is my bean green?”

As we plant new seeds this week and revisit our seed books, the yeladim will engage in new critical thinking as we compare, contrast, and predict!

At the ECC we value curiosity and thirst for knowledge. These hands-on, authentic experiences cultivate essential scientific inquiry and lifelong learning skills.
