Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to make you aware of a social media hoax that is currently circulating on multiple platforms. Law enforcement agencies have confirmed that images and videos showing a life-sized “Cat in the Hat” character appearing near neighborhoods and schools are AI-generated and are not credible threats.
Although Skidmore-Tynan ISD has not been identified as a specific target, similar posts have been reported in surrounding communities. As a precaution, we want our students and families to be aware of the situation and to use good judgment when encountering unfamiliar or concerning content online.
Please remind your child to:
-Be cautious about believing or sharing alarming posts or videos on social media.
-Not share, repost, or forward suspicious content, as doing so can contribute to the spread of a hoax.
-Tell a parent, teacher, or trusted adult if they see something online that makes them feel unsafe or if they are personally mentioned or targeted in a post.
-Report concerning information to a trusted adult rather than attempting to investigate it themselves.
The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. We are continuing to communicate with district leadership and local law enforcement and will share additional information if circumstances change.
