Students in Ryan's Alaska Studies class are learning about and practicing subsistence. Today they went out fishing in search of salmon, while learning how to set up fishing rods, tie knots, and process fish.

It was a busy week for PHS students with prep work being completed for the upcoming garden and learning shelter celebration, along with the outdoor program's first expedition to Samsing Cabin. Students had an amazing time and engaged in many hands on learning activities!

Students in Bridgette's Physics of Marine Transport class are connecting the properties and materials of marine engines with their atomic and molecular structures. Some students are also engaging in dual enrollment component earning their ITOS (Intro to Outboard Systems) Certificate. Way to go all!

The PHS kitchen is up and cooking! Students are getting their food handlers cards and making meals for their peers featuring produce from the garden. Thanks to Denise and our budding chefs for their hard work!

Orientation is over and academic classes start on Monday! We've had a great start to the year and celebrated with a trip to Kruzof for a beach clean up. Amazing weather, whales, and a lot of fun - we are excited to get the year going! Here are some more highlights from our first full week.

You're invited! Join us for the Pacific High Garden Open House & Learning Shelter Celebration on Friday, September 25th, 2026, from 4–6pm at Pacific High School.

Pacific High's Farm to Schools program started over 10 years with a single garden bed built by students. That bed has grown into a farm that now produces nearly 1,000 pounds of food a year and serves as an outdoor classroom for hands-on, place-based education.

Come celebrate the farm's newest addition: a 24' x 30' learning shelter, built from young-growth timber harvested right here in the Tongass National Forest. The shelter gives students a protected space to garden, process local foods, and host programs.
Tour the farm, see the shelter's journey from forest to school, enjoy snacks made by the Pacific High culinary class, browse informational posters, catch a short speaking program and show your support for the next generation!

This event is hosted by Pacific High School & the Sitka School District, Sitka Conservation Society, Sitka Tribe of Alaska's Resource Protection Department, and the Sitka Native Education Program — proud partners in the Pacific High Farm to Table program
